*For younger readers, Hunt was a 1966 World Cup winner who was a prolific scorer for a North West team (they played in red and their manager was Shankly - come on stay with it).

Ah. So you were not among those who chanted Roger Hunt, What a .... Maybe it was only Leeds fans who sang that, in retrospect (lovely people, Leeds fans. Anyone remember their chant "We 'Ate 'Umans)

I was more mainstream. Bobby Moore was my 66 hero, but I liked Hunt. Very honest, and lethal from 3 yards. A proper poacher. The fact that he didn't try to poke the ball over the line for that goal in the Final is always quoted by me as ultimate proof that Hurst scored.

In fact, Gabby has something of the Roger Hunt about him. Witness the fact that had Redmond's shot rebounded last weekend Gabby was ready for the tap-in. Very Hunt like.
