Was surprised to see that Claridge believes Chamberlain would have benefited from '2 more years learning the game at Southampton.' This is my opinion also just thought it interesting that Claridge felt the same way. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/front_page/9559925.stm
We had this a few days ago, but other people in media have said the same thing. Claridge also said same thing a couple of months ago when the move to Arsenal was mooted, so he's been consistent. From a footballing point of view, Alex may have made a mistake and he's going to miss a good season here, but will he regret it in his fast car with even faster women..I doubt it.
Oh I do appologise, I had not seen the earlier article! Yeah I think Alex will miss a decent season here, you are probably right that he won't look back to be honest. Wouldn't you just love to draw arsenal at the emirates in round 3 of the carling cup, them play the reserves including chambo and knock them out.
In fairness that's not really taking our side - selling him for the amount of money we did is much better for us than clinging onto him.
It would have been good to keep the old Chamberlain..exciting, enthusiastic, talented. Not so good once we all sensed that he felt we weren't good enough for him. He outstayed his welcome and we got a good deal. He will be missed but is nowhere near as irreplaceable as Lallana.
Do you think no one has come in for Lallana? Or were any offers so firmly rebuffed they never even made the rumour pages?
A massive one at that. I'd reckon quite a few teams have made tentative offers/enquiries and were firmly told to jog on. Most irreplaceable player since Le Tiss, I reckon.
I don't mind Claridge, always bigs up the Saints I've noticed...which I admire him for. Seems a fan of south coast football
And apparently seems to be as loyal as le tiss. Rumour has it he himself quashed a lot of the speculation in Jan by stating he wanted to take us to the prem! All in all, a complete and utter hero!
Really?! Maybe I listen to him with ear-blinkers on, cause when I watch he only ever says nice things, which he cant avoid, through gritted teeth! lol And when I heard the Camberlain comments, all I heard was his dismay that Saints now had loads of money to spend on building an even better team hehe any guess if I like Claridge or not? ps I know his cousin, who a few years back, Claridge often got to phone up his show pretending to be a fan of a club and ask loaded questions for him to answer! lol
You are so right mate. He is the worst pundit and a skate to boot just makes it that much worse. I can't handle him on the Football League Show, it's unbelievable how many times he looks at his notes, he would be so screwed without them!
And have to wait till the last game every day? I am quite enjoying being centre of attention even if we do have to bear with claridge! Although it will be nice to have decent punditry
He is also quite intelligent for a footballer, I remember reading the programme one match and him being the subject of the "quick question page" When asked the fifa or pro evo question, (both football video games for the older generation who aren't following!) he said neither he'd rather curl up with a nice book! And in almost all interviews he comes across as an extremely intelligent young man.
