G1 2 yo winner with a pretty consistent record available at stud for a reasonable fee (£5K) and he fails to attract enough mares - a sad state of affairs
There was also a decent piece on the role of Greatwood in looking after retired racehorses together with the work they do with special needs kids. I went on their website to have a closer look. You can sponsor a horse for £25 a year. It would be a nice touch as a horse racing forum if we had a whip-round post Cheltenham festival and sent some of our winnings off to these fine folk (assuming we still have the shirt on our back that is).
Sad news that CAPE CROSS has died aged 23. He was retired from stud duty last year had his top-class runners included OUIJA BOARD, GOLDEN HORN and SEA THE STARS. He was never the most commercial of stallions - his fee never got above €50,000 and his offspring were never in massive demand at the sales with his average yearling sale price just £65,000. This was probably due to the fact that his yearlings were never very forward looking and he wasn't a source of early precocious types.
Just noted there's been a new addition to your family Princess, congratulations to one and all. These are wonderful times.
Been a while since I posted any bloodstock updates here so trying to get back in the habit! Cheveley Park have announced that two of their stallions will be retired in recent weeks - Medicean and Kyllachy. At the grand old age of 24, dear old Pivotal can't be far behind. This will leave them with a roster of mainly unproven sires in Garswood, Mayson, Lethal Force and Twilight Sun. Dutch Art remains as the sole proven top-class site, along with Pivotal for now. They have confirmed that Intello will return to the stud next year after 2 seasons in France.
Wouldn't be surprised to see him being a big influence in the future through not only his sons but his daughters too.
Interesting article here: http://www.thoroughbreddailynews.co...g-kittens-joy-in-europe/#.WcSoIXYbg4w.twitter American owner Ken Ramsey is looking to send his top stallion KITTEN'S JOY to stand in Europe as he feels he is under appreciated in the US.
It's been confirmed that Cheveley Park have secured Ulysses at stud from 2018. A fee will be announced at a later date, pending in his runs in the Arc and at Breeders Cup. They have also bought into Prix Morny winner Unfortunately.
I was fully expecting him to stay in training and go for the big G1s next year then retire. That probably increases Cracksman's chances of KG & Arc successes next year
Yes, true. I was thinking he might follow in the footsteps of Opera House who came 3rd in the KG as a 4yo for Stoute and then won it as a 5yo. Maybe Opera House was a gelding, I can't remember
