Morning, pilgrims.

I see we’ve another ‘Barney’ running today. Bit Of A in the ‘lucky last’ at Leicester (4.40). Not many horses make their racecourse debuts at the age of 14 but old boy Barney does this afternoon (although he has run in a lot of points). One huge positive is that I see he’s being ridden by a ‘double-barrell’ which is always a boon in contests such as these.

But the big question of the day has to be what are our moles, contacts and insiders (nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more…) telling us with just 2 weeks to go till the Festival?!? Come on chop, chop…

Good luck to those wagering today.

I've never known it so quiet in the build-up to the festival. I assume forumites are still digesting the news of all the various absentees to pay much attention to who actually might be running (and possibly winning). Even the release of the handicap entries passed without comment. In fact, there has been so many shocks and surprises in the run-up to this years festival, that I am proposing the following 3 "shocks" - feel free to add your own fellow forumites:

Shock (1) - the festival does NOT start of good-soft. A deluge of rain prior to the festival gives us officially soft ground.
Shock (2) - Ruby Walsh has a terrible festival and Bryan Cooper lifts the top jockey title
Shock (3) - The Cheltenham Gold Cup has its longest-priced winner since 100-1 shot Norton's Coin in 1990.

Interesting you should say that. I read a stat last week which said of the last 47 Cheltenham Festival racedays only twice had the word ‘good’ not been in the going description. If it was ‘heavy’ (which I know is highly, highly unlikely given what I’ve just said) then I maintain Bristol De Mai will run away with the CGC. Forget your racing moles it might pay, re that one, to listen to your 'mole at the Met' (Office not –ropolitan Police) instead. Heavy ground is not unusual in March just, I guess, Bristol de Mai’s hard cheese that the CGC is run at Cheltenham. Although if it was run elsewhere it wouldn’t be called the CGC, I suppose…

You're all a bunch of dickheads and for that reason alone i'll be backing:

2.10 Leicester Rude and Crude 4/1 last night for the shrewdies. Moore's smashing it to pieces at the moment as well, the yard have requested a handicap mark, this horses bumper ability and the fact he won a point all suggest he's going to be ready to race today.

It looks a bad year on paper without all the top tier talents.

1) Jack Kennedy or David Mullins nicks the jockeys crown
2) Tizzard has zero finishers in the Gold Cup
3) I'm out of shocks

Beef Stew and dumplings. 9/10. Pancake filled with bacon and mushrooms. 8/10.

Djakadam very popular for the CGC currently. A lot of ‘blue’ right now on Oddschecker. Could be challenging for favouritism soon if this continues. Native River drifting a bit, in places, as well.
