    You'd be stoned to death if you admitted that in the Valleys.

    I agree with this ... for what it's worth. If the situation had happened the other way round there is not one United fan on here who would not be feeling very unfairly done by and that it was very poor (and incorrect) decision from the officials ... and that is all <ok>.

    The correct term is the breakdown.

    In rugby, when play breaks down after a tackle, usually a ruck will form where both sides contest for the ball. As its what's called a set piece situation, an offside line exists when a ruck is formed.

    Italy, by refusing to contest the breakdown, ensured that a ruck could not form - hence no offside line, which enabled them to effectively disrupt England's game by being in positions that would be offside under ruck conditions.

    Hope that helps!....:smile:

    Best thing about rugby is that when Wales are playing I can go to any shop and get served straight away.

    Can you now explain the difference between a ruck and a maul?

    A ruck is when player goes to ground, maul when he stays on his feet. In basic terms.

    Both are basically pile on's though!!

    Yep;

    If they're on their feet, I,e, the ball carrier, it's a maul, once they go to ground it's a ruck.

    I've seen some of the explanations but don't think they give the full flavour of what is involved - my brother-in-law still turns out for Ross-on-Wye and I've watched him on several occasions ...so here goes with what I have come to understand::

    A maul is very much a group form of "strictly" for big gay guys ...one of them towards the rear of the group hug attempts to hide the ball up his shirt with the expectation of being tickled by the opposing team attempting to get their hands on it ...

    ... in contrast

    A ruck is where there is a mass opportunity to cop a feel whilst undertaking a very gay form of "twister" ... but without the big plaggy mat ...

    Should you happen to bump into a group of "rugger" lads in the pub, you can now impress them with your newfound knowledge of their sport. The normal response is for them to break into loud guffaws, label you a "jolly fine fellow" and then to buy you drinks for the rest of the evening... you should try it <ok>
