    Firstly, it's not bollocks, that's the rule - copied from the rule book. Secondly, along with Tobes, my view is that it was a goal.

    No irony from the bloke tapping away in Thailand.

    We'll all just assume you flew in for the Swansea game shall we?

    The ball travels way faster than any player can run. Especially when it's hit hard.

    Yes, it's impossible to be 100%. But let's say it looks highly unlikely that Valencia could have done anything.

    <laugh>

    Hasn't Tobes been quite clear and vocal in his view that the officials were wrong and the goal should have stood?

    It was a legit goal

    But the rule that you stated clearly refers to any movement by a player that could cause a distraction.

    And a player running full pelt into the box in the hope of getting onto the end of a cross is a distraction.

    Or are you all seriously trying to tell us that every United defender was to make the real time assessment that the cross was ONLY for Gabbiadini and so to ignore every one else?

    Makes no difference to me as it goes because the linesman correctly called it.

    Significantly, not a single Saints fan who has visited this or the United board since the game has made any mention if it.

    The goal should have stood, can't really see why people are debating this <laugh>

    Disagree entirely. Valencia seems not to have noticed who's there. He's not in a position to affect the play, anyway.

    The only person that the linesman would view as being distracted would be De Gea. But was he?

    I don't think so, you do.

    I've read the last few pages mate.

    It seems you and Custard think it's the right call, Trebles doesn't know wtf's going on, and everyone else thinks it's offside.

    I'm with the ABU's and proud <ok>

    You're looking a still shot yet continue to argue that someone who saw it live is wrong.

    I'm not and have never said that the actual goal scorer is off side. What I am correctly saying is that the other attacker, who was being covered by two United defenders, was in an offside position and is, therefore, in play and off side.

    It isn't an instance where a player knows he's off side and so tries to drop out of play. At all.
    Had the ball reached him he would have buried it.

    It's his own error he got himself into an offside position. Tough.

    But it didn't reach him and he was the other side of the play, and not interfering <confused>

    Exactly!

    Had he been on the other side of Gabbiardini and made an attempt to play the ball before it reached him, fair enough, offside. But he wasn't, he was beyond Gabbiardini.

    **** me, if he's not off side then good luck to all your defenders in similar situations.

    I will welcome your crying when one of these goes against you.

    By the way, football is played at speed on a football pitch. Those players aren't looking at a still shot photograph.

    I think that if it had got through to Bertrand and he scores the goal should still stand because it's Utd.

    Only he didn't, and it was a ****ing awful decision.

    As former head of referees in this country explains;

    Burt’s decision to disallow Manolo Gabbiadini’s effort for offside was clearly incorrect, and it was also obvious very quickly that it was the wrong call. I wonder if he thought the goal was actually scored by Ryan Bertrand, who was beyond Gabbiadini and would have been offside. If that is the case it is an even worse error than it initially appeared, as officials are told to wait before making crucial decisions to give themselves some time to think.
    Either way it should have been an easy decision and it is one that officials at this level simply must get right.
