You should think that more often. There'd be more cloud space left <laugh>

An interesting quote came to my eyes the other day:

"voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country"*

The immigrant ban in the USA is based on this tactic.

A tactic that works when large numbers of people feel betrayed and abandoned by the established order. Most specifically, when capitalism has one of it's periodic existential crises and begins to fail millions of people, as it did in the 1930's, and several times during the 18th century.

For some reason it always seems easier to blame an easily demonised 'other' -Jews, Muslims , whatever - rather than the currency speculators, loan sharks and casino bankers who caused the crash and resultant loss of hope in the first place.

We learn nothing, it seems, from history. Just as after Wall St, barely one banker gets held to account for nefarious and often illegal activity; immigrants and minorities get the blame instead.

Sadly this is so very true true........Mind you this time though...after the last crash, the yanks decided they needed some money to bolster their economy. So brought to so called justice many of the banks and took back billions of dollars. The ordinary man in the street got nowt!!

Where are Beefy and Imp? Nothing has been posted until now since Saturday. Have we all exhausted ourselves over Trump and the Brexit debacle? Or is it because every Saint, whatever their political view, is concentrating on the small matter of the EFL final?

Busy on political sites. Believe it or not I bite my lip more often than I bite and post on here these days.

I'm also watching and reading a fair bit of Mark Blyth on the whole landscape at the moment.

Trump reportedly heading to Mar-a-Lago for third straight weekend, obliterating campaign promise

On February 17, President Trump will head to his $200,000-per-membership Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach for the third consecutive weekend, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Each trip reportedly costs taxpayers upward of $3 million.

Trump’s reluctance to spend a weekend in Washington stands in contrast to what he promised during the campaign, when he said he’d “rarely leave the White House.”

“I would rarely leave the White House because there’s so much work to be done,” Trump told a reporter in 2015. “I would not be a president who took vacations. I would not be a president that takes time off… You don’t have time to take time off.”

Trump would argue that he’s working during his weekend getaways to Mar-a-Lago, but he might be doing more harm than good.

On Saturday, the president had to deal with an international crisis during a dinner with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, creating a situation where members of the club and wait staff were able to watch and listen in as the two heads of state grappled with matters of war and peace. Aides reportedly used their cell phones to illuminate sensitive documents on a dimly-lit terrace.

Earlier Saturday, Trump played golf with Abe — marking the second time he hit the links since his January 20 inauguration. Trump repeatedly criticized President Obama for golfing during his presidency:

Last month, the Trump Organization announced that initiation fees for Mar-a-Lago membership were doubling to $200,000. For that price, members get access to the president, including the opportunity to take selfies with senior White House staff.

Got to milk the tax payer a little more.

I'm actually pretty happy with how the Trump administration has gone so far. He's even more incompetent than I thought he would be, which is amazing. I hope he continues to **** the bed massively with every small thing he does so hopefully people will catch on before he starts doing big things.

That article is 4 months old and if you look at the last bit he is quite open about it. Says he paid £1.8m tax last year and like Trump said openly in the debates It is up to the politicians to change the law if they are not happy with how the law works.

Quite right IMO. Politicians can;t keep moaning about rich people avoiding tax when they make laws (and leave them as they are) that enable them to do so.

EDITED because I put 4 years instead of months. lol

Yeah, but we can moan about it and these things should be out in the open so that voters can see the kind of people they are voting for.

Totally agree. I was just meaning that Trump and Banks are right. It is up to the politicians to stop it from happening. They keep complaining about it and saying "moral" this and that but not doing anything about it.
