Hello my Mackem brothers...

Charlton fan in peace. I've always had a massive soft spot for you guys since that game.

As much as that was the best day of my life supporting Charlton, to be on the other side of the fence and loosing a game of that magnitude in the most cruel of ways imaginable must've been truly horrible.

However, the conduct of each and every one of your fans in defeat was truly admirable and a credit to your great club.

Anyway, i digress... The point of my post is to find out whether Connor Wickham will be a starter for you boys this season.

I've always rated him and I'm considering putting him in my fantasy football team. So, do you boys reckon he'll play a part for you this season or is he one for the future?

Don't mention that game.

Don't stick him in yet mate, will get some starts here and there but will, by no means, be a first choice for the first few months at least!

Think he'll be used from the bench initially, it all depends how he performs.

If he does well, he'll be picked from January, when Gyan is away with Ghana for the ACN.

Realistically, he won't be a big point scorer this season, but keep an eye out for him for 2012!

You lads got a good side together this year? We had a great laugh in central London with some of you after the game, was really good natured, best of luck marra

I would imagine that this season is going to be a learning curve for him, so I would think he will only be used sparingly to begin with..

I was at "that game". Unforgettable to say the least. A complete set of emotions in a little over two hours.
Don't get me wrong it did hurt. Hurt like hell at the time but at the end of the day it wasn't just a defeat. It was defeat with honer.

"That game" was probably the greatest loss I've ever witnessed. The perfect game for a neutral.
Agree with the guys above, he'll get a few sub appearances initially this season and probably get starts in cup games. Think we'll have Gyan upfront with Sessegnon playing just off him.

He’s not that expensive on the old Premier League one, so I’m going to keep him in as my wildcard pick (i have a sneaky suspicion that he may just make an impact for you boys).

Apologies for mentioning… you know what… I’ve always said that I could live to a hundred and never witness a game that’s half as good as… ahem… you know !!

Fingers crossed my beloved Charlton can climb back up the football pyramid at some point in the not too distant future, in order for our paths to once again cross in the top flight of the English game.

Always had a soft spot for Gray.
Local lad. Not blessed with the natural ability of some but on his day a fantastic full back with the instincts of a winger thrown in. Always gave his all for the club and seemed for a while to shag anything with a pulse.

I was one of them singing his name at the end. I seem to remember it was a good way to stem the mounting need to cry like a girl in public. Sadly for me, the singing didn't last very long.............

Yes I was at the game we shouldn't mention. I remember, after the game, sitting at Wembley with my head in my hands listening to cheering coming from the other end of the stadium, thinking the end of the world was nigh. If only I had known what the next season would bring. A team and the fans united with only one thing on their mind. To get promotion as quickly as possible. And what a season that was 105 points, 90 odd goals and some wonderful games to watch. It's seasons like that which make up for all the bad ones.

I don't mind that game being mentioned, it was actually a wonderful blessing in disguise.

Micky Gray, for example, the mental strength for him to come back a significantly better player the next season this lad needs to be one Sky Sports, i've had a few drinks with him over the years at various things, the lad is a hoot, genuinely hilarious & witty, and a bright lad too.

On the bigger picture, if we'd went up that day, we wouldn't have had the wonderful pleasure of the following season, 107 points, 7-0 wins, numerous 4 & 5 goal blasts away from home.

We knew we were gonna walk it after about 8 games, and ****ing hell did we enjoy it, forget the great Premier League seasons under Reid, that was my greatest year following the lads by a mile, it even helped me to kick on in my own life, as i spent that season constantly cheerful and motivated.

The 4-4 is now a great memory, even if it was the end of the world at the time.

... maybe that was his way of moving on with his life and career Cyprus, given half a chance I wouldn't mind trying his approach...

Great stories lads. I along with thousands of other Charlton fans who were there that day for ‘that game’ were well pleased to see you boys bounce back in such emphatic style. It's a cliché that is a little over used these days, but after a game like that were the players and fans alike put their heart and soul into it 100%, it really was a genuine shame that there had to be a looser...!!

If there is a football god watching over the beautiful game, please let there be many, many more happy days ahead like the aforementioned for both our respective clubs…

Forget the 8 goals, it could just as easily have been 16!

I've been trying to quit smoking for about 10 years mate, but there's always an excuse not to.

Guess that means i don't want to, obviously they are half price over here, that doesn't do a lot to encourage me..

In my opinion you have got to mean to and want to give them up...Once you get that into your mindset, you will probably find it a little easier than what you think...

I agree, it doesn't help that i work nights, in bars, full of drink, i'm constantly surrounded by smokers, and i do enjoy my tabs, but as i get older, i'm feeling more and more aware of the effects on my health.

My lass doesn't smoke, and she hates that i do, i just need some motivation!

Good luck mate..For me it was undoubtedly my child (now children) that was my motivation...I decided that I wanted to be around to see them grow up..
