I'm sure we're all aware of the sickening scene of the lad being picked up and robbed after clearly being assaulted (imo) during the riots in London. The link/vid was posted in a different thread on here but it's here for those who have missed it. Anyway, after last nights game, I saw a report on the news that said the lad was a student studying over here, on his own, from Malaysia. This got my grey matter working and, given our obvious Malaysian connection, I thought it would be an idea to maybe send this lad a home shirt (or something similar) from us Bluebirds, not for self gain or publicity but as a gesture of good will and to show that not everybody living in the UK are low life scum like the ones he was unfortunate to be surrounded by that day. The more I thought about it, the more the idea grew and even though it was a long shot, I emailed the club last night with the suggestion. I've just checked my email and have received this response from the club: Dear H, Thank you very much for your e-mail. I am pleased to inform you that we are already on the case in trying to do something for the Malaysian student in question. Hopefully this will help cheer him up a little and restore his faith to see that the UK is not such a bad place after all. Kind regards
Terrific, i hope he is made guest of honour at one of our games, more importantly i hope the media pick up on it and it goes out on the News.
Excellent! I was thinking this myself in the car this morning when it was being discussed on Radio 5 - there is already a website set up for people to donate money and vote on several options called: Let's Do Something Nice For Ashraf Haziq The favourite option at the moment is to fly his family over as he is alone, only been here a month or so studying and especially as it is Ramadan, but they will wait until he is fit and wants to have a chat with the organiser before spending the cash. Glad the club is doing something with our obvious links to his home country!
I don't care if it hits the news...in fact I'd prefer if it didn't as that is irrelevant IMO...more a case of getting some good stuff happening after a week of crap hitting fans all over the place! This is not a dig at your suggestion BTW, more a case of my take on these kind of acts...perhaps on the flip-side though, more good news stories will help the mood and balance all the negativity, but might look a bit opportunist if we are seen to shout it too loudly???
Great idea, hope the club follow it through. There is no such thing as bad publicity for offering help in these situations.
I am so pleased the club responded well and hopefully this can be done with no publicity as there are so many who have suffered that cannot be helped.
Fantastic idea, really chuffed to see the Club taking action like that aswell. God those scumbags have really wound me up... But I wont get into that. (y) H.
wow, cheers guys...great to see we're all on the same wavelength with this. I, respectfully, mentioned in my reply that I hoped the club came through on this and asked to be updated as there was a lot of bluebirds backing this gesture. I know I'm not their priority but we will see. Some great points raised and while I agree there is no bad publicity with something like this, I'll echo Ghosts statement in that I wouldn't care if it didn't make the press either (no pun intended) It's all about the lad not column inches. aber, I take your point regarding anarchy. Back in the late 70's/early 80's we were an angry generation and totally anti-establishment but this particular incident, imo, has nothing to do with anarchy, politics, race, religion or anything else, just low-life scum offering nothing to the gene pool turning on the small guy. Even back then when Punks - Skinheads - Police all kicked off on Queen St/High St every weekend, you never saw anything like this mate. Even the football hooligan firms have a certain 'code'
Small gestures lead to rebuilding faith in people, so great idea. If it does happen a low key press job in the match program may be best. Just as a thank you to the fans who suggested it and an apology to the lad. I have met lots of low-life scum bags in my time but never have I seen that sort of nonsense in times of peace and relatively good economic conditions. Well done H.
Betty, I'm all in favour of the punishment befitting the crime. Pity the old grange end has gone, we could have chucked him in there as the 1/2 time entertainment.
cheers MB...last I saw he was still in hospital remote, I'm with you 100%. I hope the scum gets sent down and becomes someones bitch.
