I don't think any of us thought Trump would win the Republican nomination. I don't think any of us thought Trump would win the election. I don't think any of us thought Trump would actually do what he said. I don't think any of us actually thought it through!
I can have no influence on any of that, and in consequence, I just don't worry about any of it. I have things that concern me, that I can change but global politics doesn't ever lose me any sleep.
I watch the goings on in various parts of the world, but it's really just a global soap opera to me. I'm a bit baffled really by how people can be so passionate and vociferous about what is essentially a spectator sport to the majority of posters on here, the few US based ones excepted...it's not football or anything really important
yep. all completely true! I'm just annoyed I was as duped as the Americans who could have done something about it!
I'm passionate about people being treated fairly. Be it UK, US or anywhere else. The US is easiest to post stuff about, due to how much they have ****ed up and how much messed up stuff Trump is signing.

The Prime Minister replied that she was “very pleased” to have met Mr Trump in Washington, before evading the question by hailing Turkey’s reception of millions of refugees and Britain’s support for its government and other nations surrounding Syria.
When pressed for a second time for her view by another British journalist, Ms May continued: “The United States is responsible for the United States’ policy on refugees, the United Kingdom is responsible for the United Kingdom’s policy on refugees.”

any organizations that advocate for refugees slammed President Donald Trump's executive action Friday imposing "extreme vetting" on those fleeing to America, among them Jewish groups that took particular exception to the day on which he signed it: Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Indeed, that's great. You can make it even simpler than that though. Something that you can repeat to yourself on occasion. Treat others as you would want to be treated. It's a fundamental part of being human. It makes us different from the basic predator. Yet, in itself, it is still of a self-centred viewpoint and not altruistic, which most people are incapable of being, simply because that requires a denial of self.
If you say so....got a specific reason for saying that, or are you just being generally judgemental because its difficult to tell?

No relevance Chilcs, I was talking about world politics which I have no control over - when it affects me, I'll think about some kind of action. Till then, I'll watch it going on.
Mostly though, I think what I think because I'm not a great believer in the sanctity of life, or that every life is equal and precous. People are just another species on this planet, and there are too damn many of them so I'm not going to make my brief time on this planet any more stressful than it already is by worrying about other people whose situation I can't change. Remove 5 billion people from this planet and we might have a chance at some kind of meaningful altruism, till then its just pointless

Sure he posted a quote that I'm supposed to read and then somehow feel bad about the way I think however it was only slightly preachy, and so didn't annoy me. Fine. You're welcome to your opinion. Just remember that with your opinion you are consigning yourself to that same opinion. You too are unimportant. Not even a footnote. Humans are sunk with that opinion. Luckily, there are people like Beefy, Chilco, etc... who think differently.

On a personal note, I have put several African kids through school, by donating £15 per month for 15 years [until I was broke] and I organised the the Give It To Ron charity, which raised around £20K for Ron Davies. Pretty much all setup from behind a keyboard. I've also raised money for other charitable causes in the past. Mostly from behind a keyboard, by often by being out there and being concerned for those less fortunate.
And so it continues, but I've just let you know several of the things I've managed to do.
