It makes perfect sense to me, though probably not in this window. Cuco is probably in his last season with us, and Cedric (who has improved steadily throughout this season) will still need backup who can realistically push him for a place.
 
However, a player returning often seems to get some minor injury (muscle pull) upon returning....perhaps through trying too hard, perhaps because it is impossible to get truly fit again through training. Be good for Pied to get some match time in towards the end of the season....he's working hard enough.
 
Relying on Pied as back up does carry an element of risk but going by the fact we started the season with Jay, Austin and long as our only 3 strikers it seems the board are prepared to risk injury reoccurrence.
 
Pied's a bit of a risk but we've also got Stephens and Yoshida who can play RB (assuming we get back to a full set of CBs). Maybe Bertrand or McQueen could as well. Depends on our fixtures as well, if we aren't in Europe there's less of an issue.

And we have McCarthy (even though I prefer him at cb), who I hope is given a chance in pre season. Then we have Valery who will probably be looked at in pre season.
 
We must be very, very close to being able to (theoretically) field a strong team made up purely of academy players. Maybe two or three seasons time?

Has a 14m release clause that Wolves are rumoured to be paying to make the loan permanent. Not sure if that is a part of the loan deal or in his Benfica contract as other teams might be interested at that price
