You can see the problem we've got. Not enough senior players and even then we are missing some of our better ones to long term injury. On top of that you could probably pick out a good 6 or 7 who, in an ideal world, are filler that you'd get rid of. Unfortunately, even some of them are crocked anyway, and there doesn't seem to be any interest in the others. Instead, with seemingly no cash to spend, we are trying to justify potentially flogging off our single best hope of staying up for at least £5m less than he's worth in the hope Silva gets to spend some cash on a couple of continental chancers.
Despite all the positive signs from some of the performances, I can see why Marco used the word miracle.
You make some good points I am trying to test:
A squad that appears big enough, but has too few substansive senior players in it. Tòo few signings in the summer and poor signings then and previously.
We have four to long term injury, although only Dave was considered a loss, as the slating of Henriksen and Mason (in particular) was fairly vehement on here. That seems to have changed, over time; will that be the case with the new 'continental chancers'?
Let us play with the idea that, if we needed money to recruit and satisfy supporter demand, we needed to sell one or more players to secure loan deals and purchases.
If we take that as a reality, then it is hard to see decent money in all of our assets.
Hernandez - the only proven striker? Snodgrass - goals and set pieces? Maguire - an emerging rampager? Robbo - but at what position?
We supposedly got £10M for Jake, more than I have seen offered for Snodders, far more than muted for any of the others. So is it best to sell Jake, as damage limitation, or sell more than one?
Let's take into account player wishes too.
Which pkayer are you speaking of us thinking of selling for £5M less than he is worth?
If, as I believe, you are speaking of Snodders, then is it not reasonable to believe other reports that we are trying to keep him? Betting is back on, he is training again and we are supposed to be sitting down with him.
It seemed fairly certain we were going down under MP. Hope has returned under MS. The squad need strengthening and balancing, which takes money.
The owners got it very wrong, aided by Bruce and, but not nearly as responsible, Phelan.
With the help of Silva they seem to be in recovery mode, which is sad after wasting half the bloody season.
Silva has a big job on, we are bringing in players and linked to some of real interest.
But much is paper-talk and rumour, 1st Feb is the first point of reference and then end of season.
There might be more injuries that EA, Silva and the cleaning lady can be blamed for, though.
