Always record the Saints games when live on the tv, and looking back through some of the bits of the Leeds game it became more and more annoying with Sky's commentator calling Fonte, Jose 'Font'. Surely they could do a little deeper researcher before the game they are covering and get the pronounciations correct?! Really gets on my nerves!

Another pet hate is when Clive Tyldesley calls Didier Drogba - 'Drogbar', and Nicolas Anelka, 'Nicola'!

Anyone got any qualms with commentators who can't get the names right?

Forte gets the same, theres worse mistakes out there, & it might just keep him from the top 4's radar.
    Who is Fon-tey, he's amazing!

No-one, but no-one beats are very own Mick Channon and his description of the boy "Line acre" in the 1986 World Cup. Legendary stuff.

Remember when David Pleat used to commentate on games. And he called Patrick Viera " Patrick Vieri" all game, god dam that was annoying. The guy is a total space cadet, he had no idea what he was on about 99% of the time.

Ever since John Motson first appeared on MOTD commentating on a match I have wanted him to SHUT UP. He can say absolutely anything and it annoys me. Funnily enough, away from commentating, he has some very sensible opinions, which I often heartily go along with.

Fonte is pronounced "Font". It would be pronounced Fon-tey if the "e" on the end had an accent above it, like the Jose of his name does.

Same applies to Jonathan Forte (pronounced Fort).

    I think it's just because he's portuguese that people think it's Fon-tey.

I'm still right, I just didn't specify which type of accent. Although to be fair to myself, I did say an accent like the one over the "e" on the end of his first name, which is indeed an acute accent.

    I'm right.
You're right. (though a touch pedantic)

I still call him Fonte. Never heard anyone at St Marys (outside the commentary box) pronounce it 'Font', even if it's the correct pronunciation.

Hey, even Dave Merrington calls Barnard 'Bernard'

Pleat was great to have on games, from stuff like Vieri do Marcus DaBeasley :D

On Fonte, I don't really care about how it "should be" pronounced, maybe I should but he'll always be Fontay to me.
