I think a bit of realism is needed. Firstly, I like him and think he is a good player and could be a really good player. Who doesn't love a centre back beating four men then having a shot? He is a cult hero in many senses, because he does things he shouldn't. However, he is part of one of the worst defences in the league. This isn't all David Marshall's fault, Harry has played his part. He makes mistakes defensively and is very slow, and has a huge turning circle. This isn't to say he won't be a great defender, Nemanja Vidic was hardly quick on his feet. But let's be honest, he isn't worth £50m, or anywhere near it. Has he played 20/30 games in the Premiership yet? Let's be realistic we have got a good defender with the best years ahead of him, but he has a lot of room to improve. I just hope it's at Hull City.
The mainstream media now know what us City fans have known for a while - he's a special talent. If he keep this up he'll take Jagielka's place in the England squad.
I agree. Comparing him with Stones is stupid, simply because Man Citeh paid a stupid price* and Everton played them brilliantly. But what would be a fair price? I would honestly suggest we accept nothing less than £20m for him, and if people think even then I'm getting carried away I'm not one who does overvalue our players. I said last week that £20m for Livermore and Snodgrass would be a good deal. *And none of that is hindsight - if anyone can be bothered to go back and look I said both he and Shaw will be transfers that will be laughed at in years to come while the vast majority were lauding them as being world class.
Which is precisely why clubs like us, unfortunately, should look to cash in when the media is crowing about one of ours. I can see Harry at Arsenal, think he's exactly what they need. He'd never pay big bucks this January though, so maybe one for the summer.
The difference with Maguire now is that he's been noticed by the juggernaut that is the mainstream media. If he continues with displays and the limelight continues to be on him, Southgate will find it difficult not to call him up Englands last squad included central defenders of Cahill Jagielka Stones Keane Smalling will come back in for the next squad. There's no other game on Thursday night so if I were Southgate I'd get my arse down to the KCOM and watch him again.
It's hard to say he's worth big bucks when he doesn't have a long-term contract. He's had a few decent games but he'll need a lot more yet.
He is good at bringing the ball out.Often this is late in the game. Yes he likes a shot but how many has he scored.Mostly from outside the box Yes he is a good blocker but how many are last ditch. How good is he with his head at either end of the pitch. That was a daft penalty to concede v Bournemouth . Still young and raw. I would suggest £5m tops with £3m add ons would a sensible offer. PS I want him to stay and improve on the above with us.
You are far to sensible for this forum! Spot on with what you say, we get far to carried away. Played under 15 EPL games! He was rotten against Bournemouth, lacks pace and is very raw. Also positionally he needs to improve and also needs to pass more. He does have potential but that is it. Running and giving the ball away doesnt make you worth 50 m
Stones has been at City half a season, while Shaw has had a shocking injury to overcome. Patting yourself on the back about either transfer failing is a bit premature.
Dawson makes anyone look good next to him. The same as he did last year. Harry needs games it takes him 3-4 games to get fitnes and up to speed. We've conceded goals in the three but Davies has been the weak link, no fault of his own. He's played nearly 30 games up to Xmas and obviously been rushed back. He played every cup game and pre season up till December. I don't blame Marshall for the goals conceded but we needed to change something.
I am aware of the formation we were playing in that match and appreciate he was out of position. It was a naive tackle early in a must win game only just inside the box. Not the action of someone who is worth the stupid money quoted on some replies.
Because Stones never makes mistakes? He's young, he will make mistakes but his potential is clear to see. If he worked on his physique he could be more mobile and improve further. Through hard work and dedication Cristiano Ronaldo has gone from being a skinny kid with potential, to being a perfect athlete and the best player in the world.
Good thing he's only 23 and still developing. Would have thought the way he played in the following 88 minutes made up for that.
