Yes, the main difference was the tempo and attacking passing from the midfield today.
 
Re the disallowed goal, my brother said that there was a definite push from one of our players and that was what the Lino spotted. Although the score line was different today , it reminded me of the Everton game-never giving them a moment on the ball and some silky one-touch passing. So many chances that it could have been 5 easily.
I worried that we lacked composure for 5 minutes after Virgil went off but once we stopped hoofing it clear and settled down I knew that it would be ok. They did have shots but Very few on target. Very happy indeed-don't think I have ever been to a match that early though. Those at the pub beforehand , did the lager taste a bit odd at that time of the morning?;)

An indirect free kick was given. It was defintely given as offside.

Yes, but surely the Lino should have raised his flag immediately he saw it and had he done so, why the need to discuss it? Surely he didn't say to the ref that perhaps he should have flagged it? Sorry, am I being dense here? Never been a ref or Lino so please explain.

You mean we had a dodgy Christmas and come into the New Year looking good, like last year...

With the offside, I can only presume what happened between the officals was:

1) Linesman sees offside Saints player (Yoshida) but waits to see what happens

2) Referee sees Yoshida go to attack the ball but Morgan gets there first

3) Linesman sees Morgan head it in, so does not give offside as Yoshida never touched it

4) Referee goes to tell linesman that Yoshida was 'active' becuase Morgan only touched it to prevent Yoshida getting it

5) Referee then asks linesman 'therefore was Yoshida offside, if so we give offside, interfering with play'.


Feels like the only thing that could've happened - linesman had view on offside, ref had view on whether Yoshida was active. Combined they gave a decision.

Personally I don't think Yoshida was even offside.







nb I don't know if 'active', 'interfering with play' etc are the right terms any more

That could work. We know Bertrand slots in well as part of a back 3. Doubt we'll see it, but you never know. A clean sheet at Anfield and we're through,

The linesman wasn't sure who touched it or who was interfering with play so he didn't flag. Michael Oliver went over and said "Yoshida or Stephens was interfering with play was he in an offside position?" The assistant obviously said yes therefore he gave offside.
