Joel Matip has been given the all-clear by FIFA to resume playing for Liverpool.

The governing body have dismissed the case against the Reds centre-back following his dispute with the Cameroon Football Federation.

Had a disciplinary hearing been opened, Matip could have been absent for a further 10 days until the matter was resolved.

Instead, FIFA have ruled Matip is now available for selection with immediate effect.

The 25-year-old could now feature for Liverpool in their Premier League game at home to Swansea City on Saturday, although it is more likely he will be among the substitutes with Jurgen Klopp having revealed the player was “not that involved” in preparations for the game.

Liverpool opted not to choose Matip for last Sunday's visit to Manchester United and the midweek FA Cup win at Plymouth due to a lack of clarity over the player's situation.

    Klopp on FIFA's Matip decision

Liverpool boss Klopp admitted on Tuesday he had sought legal advice before making his final decision on the availability of Matip, who hasn't featured since suffering an ankle injury against West Ham United on December 11.

A statement on the official Liverpool website said: "Liverpool FC can confirm that all charges against the club and its player Joel Matip have been dismissed by FIFA following confirmation this evening from the world football governing body.

"The club had requested FIFA to provide guidance on Matip's eligibility after a complaint had been made by FECAFOOT to FIFA concerning the player's purported call up to the Cameroon national team for the Africa Cup of Nations. Following FIFA's ruling, the club now considers the player available for selection."

Speaking earlier on Friday, Klopp said: “FIFA mentioned to us Friday would be D-Day.

“It is difficult in this position because with the fixtures we have at the moment we don’t have a lot of training time and you have to work with the team which could start in the next game and when you’re not sure what to do with Joel he is not that involved.

“I had to put me outside this case a little bit because I need my full concentration about other things.”

The row was sparked after Cameroon called up Matip to their preliminary squad for this month's Africa Cup of Nations, despite having announced his international retirement in September 2015.

Matip was one of several Cameroon players who asked not to be considered for selection, and was subsequently omitted from the final squad.

Don't see why we have Henderson and Can in this game. Would have had Lallana back there and Origi in the front 3
