Five people have been shot dead by a gunman at Fort Lauderdale airport in Florida, say officials.
It happened at the baggage claim area in Terminal 2, just before 1300 local time (1800 GMT), the airport confirmed.
Five people were killed, eight injured and one person was unharmed in custody, said police and local officials.
Hundreds of people were standing on the tarmac outside the terminal as dozens of police cars and ambulances rushed to the scene.
Live updates
Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca wrote on Facebook that the gunman had arrived on a flight from Canada with a gun checked into his luggage.
"He claimed his bag and took the gun from baggage and went into the bathroom to load it. Came out shooting people in baggage claim", Mr LaMarca wrote.
One of the first reports of the incident came from former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer, who said in a tweet: "I'm at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport. Shots have been fired. Everyone is running."
A witness told MSNBC that the gunman was a "slender man' who was wearing a Star Wars T-shirt.

Had a US military identity card on him and the gun was in his baggage along with ammo.

Got to love the USA.

Why do Jedi even want to come to this galaxy in the first place? If they don't like it here they should go home.
Jedi don't use guns.

We will just put this down to a typical Mindy fail.

Oh dear. That is a screen shot from the first Star wars film. This is before Luke meets Yoda and well before he becomes a Jedi knight.

If I may be so bold it isn't from "the first" Star Wars film. Technically The Phantom Menace was the first in chronological order and Star Wars A New Hope was episode 4. Luke Skywalker at Jabba The Hutt's Palace was from The Return of The Jedi which would be film six or three depending on when you think Star Wars actually started. He has a blaster because at the time of this scene his light sabre was actually being concealed within RD-D2 and was ejected for Luke to use during the fight over the Sarlacc pit.

I see your nerd and raise you one geek and pop in.

Technically a gun fires individual shots (bullets, cartridges etc) whereas in the fillums they'd be laser blasters.

I'd say your score is 1-1, Jedi don't use guns as such but you dropped the ball on the incorrect naming of the films.
