We shouldn't underestimate the toll that European matches take on the teams. Because of this, the top 2 will be Chelsea and LFC (fingers crossed). Among the others, I am afraid that the red mancs are currently the best equipped for their Thursday matches. Their second string is as good as any. Those who say they are out of it are burying their heads in the sand.

I dunno.. when arsenal lose in the last 16 thats only 2 games.

spurs will play reserves in europa

city will probably try for cl yes that is a fact given their draw

Utd.. well i would say they might go deeper i nthe competition for sure but they have the reserves (unless they sell them) to do so. I agree theres far too much manc fear around here and looking at them not at ourselves.

Beginning to get some impression of just what a genius Turing was . And here's a thought - if 'awareness' can be associated with a 'soul', I am now convinced that my dog has a soul too. Seriously. But I can't see anything (yet) that would justify Wheeler's anthropic principle, and the jumping-to-conclusions about the wave function collapse in the double-slit experiment. Maybe when I get to the quantum part.

None of it explains how Mike Dean's mind works though. Perhaps there's a bit on the stimulation of microtubules by stuffed brown envelops.

Glad you're enjoying it mate. The prequel, The Emperor's New Mind is excellent too <ok>

Our disappointing result against Sunderland has been softened by Chelsea losing and Arsenal drawing. Sure, the teams in 5th and 6th 10 days ago have closed the gap but we are still second and now a point closer to first. Utd have had a great run but who have they played?...and have had a fair slice of luck in winning this games (no red cards for, some against...). Chelsea are a very well balanced team but Spurs, who have hit good form, just showed everyone else how to beat them and they'll drop more points....Arsenal blow hot and cold...and then there's City who look like the Arsenal of the North! They can both be brilliant though so are well in the game. Then there's us, we turn up for the big games but drop silly points in games we need/ought to win. I fear that Injuries may hurt us in January so hope to see Cout's, Hendo, Matip and Studge Back for the Utd game....

I think Chelsea are the only team who look good for top 4. The other 3 spots now look up for grabs - this has changed in 10 days...as has my viewpoint. It's gunna be closer than I ever imagined <yikes>

Looking at the next few matches, January really is a massive month for the contenders. After the FA cup ties it's:

Chelsea's run is tough!
So is Liverpools and 2 League cup games to fit in!
Arsenal should move up
Spurs and City have a chance to maintain or progress.
Utd play liverpool at a very good time as their reserves are good enough to see off hull in the league cup.

Will be interesting to see the table as we get into February and European football starts to loom.

EDIT: How the **** do i format it as a table so it's readable !! SORTED :)

With United they need to come out and win, no going to Anfield for a draw like earlier this season. If they draw it only benefits ourselves as it keeps us in the top four.

We deal better with teams who are willing to attack than sit back and annoy us. Man u will also be out for revenge as we knocked them out of the Europa last season (thats if anyone there cares at all).

I've got The Large, the Small and the Human Mind for @ £1 plus postage off Amazon (looks like a pilfered library book, tbh). Just finishing a huge tome, 900-odd pages, on the US Civil War called A World On Fire (never realised how much Liverpool in particular, and the North West in general, were so pro-Confederate: all about cotton). When I get through that I can give it my full attention.

Ideal month for Arsenal...

United v Liverpool
City v Spurs
Liverpool v Chelsea

We're involved with 2 of the 3 big games...a lot in our hands. Could end up disastrous if we don't do it right.

And all of this is without Mane and Hendo injured? Does anyone know if Ford is back for Uniturd? Or Stuge or Matip?

Crucial month alright. In fact if we get through it in good shape, the run in is one of the easiest compared to the competition. Even more incentive to do well.

I hope that Klopp will rest his key players in the EFL match. No brainer really.

Interesting appointment for Hull..............Marco Silva, only 39 but has done well elsewhere
They could appoint Jesus of Nazareth and it'd make no difference to their survival chances.

They were buried the moment the Allams decided to not back Steve Bruce in the transfer market last summer, stupid pair of ****s.
