Jose Mourinho speaking about his friend Marco Silva in 2015.

They [Arsenal] are in a group where a kid friend of mine is the manager of Olympiakos and it would be fantastic for the kid’s career to go through,’ he said.
‘So I have to be honest and say that I would like the kid and Olympiakos to go on, and we know that Bayern go through for sure. The reality is that Arsenal can still do it. Arsenal can perfectly go to Athens and win.
The ‘kid friend’ in question is the Portuguese manager Marco Silva, and given that Arsenal haven’t won at Olympiacos in three attempts, qualification for the Gunners may not be as straightforward as Mourinho thinks.

Wonder why he didn't end up at Wolves or Forest last summer?

Anyway, over the morning I've gradually warmed to the idea (I know he'll be pleased about that...) so I'll be looking forward to his first game in charge with some optimism, as long as he starts Jak in goal. :emoticon-0105-wink:

It appears certain that, Silva, will take over. I certainly don't think any of us saw it coming and it is a very strange appointment as you would expect him to require a war chest and the Allams to make one unlikely. Pros and Cons can be discussed for the six month contract but we can only hope it is all to do with staying up.

Rowett would not have been a bad appointment, in the absence of anyone else decent, but when I read the many posts about him it just about always came across that posters expected failure to stay up and really saw him as a Chumps manager. Maybe that was the right outlook, personally I think not.

We have the chance of a young, reasonably well proven manager; one used to achieving both league and cup success with previously struggling sides. That's a talent we really do need at this club.

I welcome the change and wish him well.

He may have been in L2. But in the Championship he is without doubt a midfielder. Therefore his achievements cannot be compared as he's playing a completely different position.

He has been a part of the team that's made an impressive turnaround with Monk at the helm. Up to 5th in the league.

<doh> At least you finally admitted it. You've entirely missed the point in which case.

The whole discussion was about lower league strikers making the step up, and one who was regularly touted for us was Roofe. He struggled so much in making the step up as a striker that they instead played him as a mid, where, yes, he is playing very well. But it would not have helped our striker issues if we had signed him as a mid, would it?

**** me you are stupid.

Given that they haven't at any point played him as a striker, suggests they bought him to play in midfield.

That club has a transfer strategy.

Being friends with Mourinho is good, great in fact, but Phelan was still going for lunches with Alex Fergusan, made no difference, they have to be their own man.

Lets face it, none of us know enough about Silva to have an educated opinion.
I'm just hoping he can bring a fresh approach that lifts the player's confidence and he has the nous to organise the team more effectively.

Also it would be nice to have someone who is more familiar with his foreign transfer targets than most of our previous managers have been.

This appointment makes for a decent new song for us.

A good old Jeff Beck number.....

You're everywhere and no-where baby,
That's where you're at,
Going down a bumpy hillside,
In your hippy hat.
Flying across the country,
And getting fat,
Saying everything is groovy,
When your tyres are flat,

And it's...

Hi-ho Silva's Tigers,
Anywhere you go now baby,
I see your sun is shining,
But I wont make a fuss,
Though its obvious.

Jesus ****ing Christ.

Do you really have such a basic lack of English comprehension? It wasn't about the rights or wrongs of Phelan's sacking, but the manner of your comment, which was ****ing disrespectful towards him.

**** off princess
