I'm praying ollie doesn't make things worse with the cull. Chery has obviously asked for a move, Henry I couldn't care less but polter I do find a tad strange if true. I honestly don't think strikers are our main problem but instead creating chances for them on a regular basis.
Yep we have to have a system - and players to fit into that system - capable of providing the platform to create chances. It's no good playing one up front if your defence is so shonky your entire midfield spends most of the game sitting somewhere between your own box and the halfway line.
Taylor looks our sort of player and in the mould of Charlie Austin. We also need to have a line to feed a player like that. But you can see how he likes to find gaps, which infuriates defenders. I say we should be going for him, he's grafted his way through the leagues and looks hungry.
As a Seagulls ST (I take the Small Seagull), and having seen KLL for the past few years I think this would be a mistake. 1. He's been out for most of last season and all of this - only just returned for the U23s - so not match fit and lacking match sharpness 2. His performances before injury were increasingly less effective - he appeared to have lost some of his pace and seemed less able to beat his man, preferring to cut inside from the left and shoot with his right foot. Anyone expecting him to be a reliable supplier of balls from out wide might be disappointed. 3. He is not a prolific goal scorer - averages 3/4 a season Just not convinced that he is the solution.
If we really want to recruit another winger it's hardly a ringing endorsement of Les and the 4 wingers we have already.
£4m they are saying for Chery. Bite both hands off, I say. Surely that could buy 2 strikers like Matty Taylor and lee Gregory?
Was Gregory at Millwall with Olly? Always worries me a little when managers go back for players they haven't been successful with. 1:4 ratio in the Championship 1:2 in League 1 Taylor obv not played at this level but clearly has something about him that might offer the opportunity to develop him further. Omar Bogle sounds like decent punt at the price - several Championship teams looking at him apparently. Whoever we go for I hope they get more support than Conor - as others have already said, we really need to be either signing lone strikers or play to our signings strengths.
We are selling quality in Phillips, Fer and Chery for around 4 or 5 million, and replace them with lower league players. Easy to see which way we are heading, and if they are mostly like Washington and cost close to 3 million we'll be heading there very quick.
And if none of them want to be here? You don't ask for transfers and/or underperform if you like where you are.
SSN have Sandro off to Turkey. Queens Park Rangers midfielder Sandro is in talks with Turkish club Osmanlispor, according to Sky sources. The proposed deal would see the 27-year-old Brazilian leave Loftus Road on a permanent basis. Sandro (background) was an unused substitute in QPR’s victory over Ipswich on Monday.
Of course if they really don't want to be here then we have to sell them for as much as we can. But we need to try to promote a Club with the ambition and environment where quality hard working players want to stay, otherwise we need to replace them (and it won't be easy) with some more quality and experience to make a decent promotion challenge. It won't be this season, but if we only replace them with lower league players and youngsters it won't be next either, and we'll continue to struggle in a Championship full of Clubs with greater ambition than we show now, if we are not already League 1 next season.
If they really don't want to be at QPR you have to ask why? And however you look at it there is a problem with the club - either we consistently find players with a poor attitude or we do something to them to make then want away. Caulker, Sandro, Henry, Ned aside, buck stops with Les.
We would do well to look at some of the top European teams for some loan players. Worked out well for Wolves with Helder Costa and Joao Texieria and Norwich with that Nelson Oliviera all 3 of whom are on loan from Benfica who have loaned out 20 players this season.
The problem with loanees, are they would rather not be here and fail, (take your pick of the recents ones) or they become so important that when they do go back leave a big hole, would rather the later, both not ideal
All sound to me but it's easier said than done. The reason why we are up **** creek is because we were fooled over many years into paying over the odds for players who were supposedly all "quality, hard working" and happily kissed the badge when they signed. Ask yourself one question. Why would any decent player who has already proved his worth/earned a reputation want to come to Loftus Road now unless it was because of the size of his wage packet and add-ons? We are way beyond 'work in progress' or showing potential. A 'madhouse'. 'basket case', 'lunatic asylum' or 'graveyard for talent' is probably a more accurate description.
