This is always going to be the problem for Sturridge and whichever club he's at while his injury problems persist. No manager can build an attack around someone who is only available sporadically.
Schneiderlin to WBA for £18m is latests link. Would be a risky move for him... they're decent ATM but are they the level he would want to be at... how often are they going to compete in Europe compared to be in relegation fight.
Draxler.. Interesting... Joyce, who's one of the more reliable Journo's when it comes to stuff about us is stating it.. But.. Think PSG may have stole a march on most teams, they'll be able to offer him CL footie this year (he's not cup tied). They'll also be able to line his and just as importantly these days, the pockets of his Agent better than we could. But.. hoping Klopp can talk his countryman into the "project" he's got going here and sell it to him!
Depends on the player and if he is motivated by money. Reason why a lot go to China then regret the move.
I guess with PSG its not just the money, its chance to win leagues, compete in the CL, also seeing he won't be the big fish any more, may help him develop with less pressure on him.. the fact that he'd get a nice wage and live in Paris would be a nice fringe benefit.. Then again, Southport is lovely, we've got Klopp, he'd fit right in with the fluid attackers we have, we wouldn't exactly be paying him peanuts either.. Need to get Klopp, Emre and Karius on the phone to this lad!
Id rather spend £40m on a first teamers than buy 4 squad players for £10m each. That's where we went wrong for so long during rafas days where had to keep building the squad.
If klopp backs a guy like draxler or anyone in a big buy I really don't care what he wages or fee is. If he buys 4 10mils i just hope theyare all unpolished gems. At this point we don't need another 3/4 guys that will take 2 years. IMO one good first team improvement this window would be great.
Can't argue with that, we need a first XI and subs bench full of match winners/game changers! Not a strong XI and a couple of decent players on the bench! So, if that means blowing a big chunk of money on proven quality, then so be it!
That's the point though, i think Draxler would be a good buy to push the first team/bed in. At 40m+ i would be wanting a bit more than what draxler is though (mentioned his inconsistencies before). He's not played much this year and although he's done pretty well at schalke and wolfsburg, he was hardly a world beater. Even for the germans in the Euros he didn't particular shine and was in and out of the team (horses for courses for loew). From your front 3, who would he replace? Coutinho definitely not. Firmino i don't think so as he's made the false 9 his own (draxler probably too weak to play there) and realistically it's manes place that he would replace.
Could play in the Gini/Can role, along with Lallana, they are the ones that bomb forward, stitch play between midfield and attack... Hendo stays as the sitting MF.. Think he'd be better suited coming from a deeper position, with his technical ability, help with better ball retention too... But, its all hypothetical, Echo are reporting whilst we're very interested, PSG appear to have stolen a march on most teams and he's more than likely to end up there.
Not sure to be honest, but Klopp coverted Lallana from a winger to CM, Milner into a LB and Gini from a #10 to a #8 Hypothetically, if we wanted to shoehorn him into the team, and we didn't want to drop the current front 3, then Can or Gini need to make way, current untouchables are the front 3, Lallana, Hendo, Matip, Lovern, Clyne and Milner... Mings currently in goal until he cocks up.. and he will.. So, if we where to get him, then, IMHO he plays in place of Gini/Can, maybe in a slightly more advance role? That'd be bloody attack minded but on current form I wouldn't drop any of the front 3, even for a player like him!
Draxler has been one of those players that has been romanticized for a while now, flirting with a move to a big club for the last 3/4 years (linked with Arsenal every transfer window too). I remember he had one boss game for Germany in the Euros. Would be a good buy, but I think I'd prefer Pulisic. Either or, one of them would be a good move for us and will add depth to our front 3. We are discussing where he would play or who would he replace but look at how we panicked when Coutinho got injured...or when we had no senior attacking players on the bench against West Ham. We need depth up front and it's up to all of them to fight for a starting spot.
Whatever Draxler would cost, Pulisic would be cheaper. And he's worked with Klopp. The more likely signing imo
I'd be very happy with a Draxler buy. He ticks all of the right boxes. I hope this is one Klopp has been lining up for a while. Also hoping that we have last summers budget to spend if needed. If I recall, we ran a surplus! We might need some of it if we are to have a chance to buy this guy...
