If you're a driver and you're no cleared for cabin work due to medical issues, your options (I think) are:

1. DLA if your health is that bad
2. redundancy
3. be one of the guys that has to hudgie aff the lorry and move the bins about (presumably on a lower rate once your TUPE runs out)

Aye I meant just in general though. He didn't disclose his medical issues or the council never acted on them right? Meant if they had no reason otherwise then I'm pretty sure that by law certain council vehicles need to be operated at all times by someone - if in public areas.

Aye, drivers tend to have better contracts and much better pay for sitting on their arse. That's a fact, at least here it is anyway.

I don't have an issue with anyone fleeing a life of war and oppression. My problem is the way in which European nations have dealt with it, it has been shambolic at best and reckless at worst.

It's been a shambles because they don't have a ****ing clue what to do about it - they are just winging it. There was every chance there were going to be a few nutjobs in the thousands that crossed Europe - it wasn't very difficult to predict this story happening. The problem is the human consequences of doing nothing were huge, and Merkel was the only one with enough balls to make a call - while the rest of Europe's leaders hid away so that they didn't have any responsibility in the potential starvation/drowning/freezing deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, or indeed any responsibility when the inevitable nutjob jihad hidden among them kicked off.

Again that is a failure of elected government officials at a local, national and continental level. Can't blame the citizens for not being happy about the way it has been handled.

The human consequences in the long-term globally could be more far reaching than even the refugee crisis. The rise of the far Right could push us into another global conflict. I can wildly speculate too.
