they have had the power for years to suspend players . The rule was brought in to stop clubs not releasing players and/or putting players under pressure to withdraw but that isn't the case here as i seem to remember us discussing him not wanting to play the ACON when he joined us so i'm confused by this story if accurate

It always is. Even retiring doesn't mean they can't cal you up. Think similar thing happened with makelele a while back where he retired and didn't want to play but they were insistent on calling him up

They should change the rules again and make the national teams pay for everything and not the club who pays their wages while on int duty.

Also instant £20 mill fine payable to the club of any player returning injured.

See how keen they are then <laugh>

Article on sky sports about Suso and how he's doing at Milan. Sounds like he's finally found some form that he seemed capable off. Shame never got going properly here but good to see him do well, just annoying didn't get any kind of decent fee for him

Not sure this will apply to Mane, their body types are different.. Mane also knows that he'll want to stay on the right side of Klopp if he wants back in as soon as the AFCoN is finished.. he'll be fine (assuming he doesn't pick up an injury when out there!)

So if a player declares he's retiring from international football a country can still say he has to play?
How do they get round that legally? With a club a player is contracted to play so a refusal is technically a breach of contract, but even then nobody can force him to play, they can only penalise him according the terms of the contract.
Anyway - who wants to field a player that doesn't want to play?
I don't remember the Makelele incident, what was the outcome?

    You and me both..
On his days, the lad is quality but he's not got the consistency we need..
Then again, if Klopp thinks he's got the raw talents he can mould, then who knows..
He won't be cheap either, what with the Brit/PL tax!

Makelele one was a bit odd but Ribery had similar.

Matip's 25 mate, I doubt that'd wash in this case, especially after he's already been called up.

FIFA can't force him to play, what they can do is suspend him domestically for the duration of the tournament.

Who cares.. we have two world class cbs who marked lucky out of the game so they will be fine.

However any country playing this game will find it utterly counter productive as players they seek to approach in future will just say no. Nobody has a contract with a country to play. Its not the draft after all so in the end its fairly pointless isnt it.

Could be a can of worms.. if the Player himself states he doesn't want to play, then how can FIFA enforce that? Isn't it restriction in trade?
Him not being allowed to work/play for a team his contractually/obligated to do so?

Also, would it benefit Cameron to have someone there that doesn't want to be there?
If he did end up going, they could piss him and LFC off and name him on the bench, that would be a right piss take!
