He's just about cleansed the stench of Leeds off his cv, and the stigma is almost forgotten. Now why would he want so soil his career by going to Celtic, the playground bullies of the SPL, whose 60,000 'rebel' fans lap up the easy victories against Partick, Ross County ?
Surely when he retires, he will remember games like last Saturday's at WHU, against the odds stirring games in the most watched league of all, playing for a genuine 'outsider' club rather than winning 0-4 at Dunfermline?

(Plus he'd be paid better here)

Exactly spes. As I keep saying you can blame the Allams for a lot of things but things like this they are powerless.

I'm guessing Celtic would be his last option - WBA sniffing allegedly, that'd suit him for a year or two.

They need to **** off and make way for owners who are willing/able to pay the going rate for the required players.

The average wage of a Celtic 1st team squad player last season was around £18k, coming from a squad of 30+ players (so consider how many "kids" must be in there on low wages bringing that down). I'm pretty sure for the top 3 or 4 players in their squad they could go to £40k if they thought it was worth it.

The problem I have with this story is it's a bit convenient. People are "hearing" he won't sign as he's asking for too much. We all know Ehab wants to sell everything off, it'd be awfully easy for an underling to be told to let slip about contract issues a couple of weeks before the window, so that when it came the inevitable sale is met with "well if he wouldn't sign we had no choice". I mean come on, we've got Tymon's contract still unsigned despite them having accepted the club's offers on more than one occassion only to be told the offer was changing. He's not asking for over £40k as well is he?

They honestly aren't paying anywhere near to what Snodgrass would want. The story is a non starter unless he's happy to take a significant reduction in salary. One of my good friends is a season ticket holder at Celtic (spit) and he openly admits there's no way on earth they can compete with the money on offer from PL clubs. That's why most recently Celtic have been shopping abroad or in the Championship - they don't need to be shopping anywhere else to win the SPL as it's a one horse race.

Who knows what's going on at our club, I don't even think the owners do!

There's no way on Earth they can compete with the top PL clubs, they can and do compete at the same level as the bottom end PL clubs on individual deals (not the total budget). To suggest they couldn't (not wouldn't) give Snodgrass £40-50k is ridiculous.

Last season their wage bill was £36M, and they didn't lose money. When we had a £38M wage part of it was a £40-50k/w contract for Bullard. Ignore the fact we were terribly run at the time so we were losing money, we had a squad costing us not too different an amount to what Celtic were paying last year, and out of that budget we were able to put a player on the money Snodgrass is allegedly after.

It's not like Rodgers, Toure, Dembele and Sinclair are earning peanuts is it. They were added (with a few departures) to that £36M. They can afford the budget, the budget can be set to accomodate those earnings, it's all a matter of whether they choose to or not.

Scott Brown - Best paid player at Celtic £25k a week.

Do you really think they are going to go up to £40k + a week for Snodgrass - really? They won't, they can't afford it. It would have repercussions with players like Brown demanding parity. No chance.

Because he supports them, plus even though they're a million miles behind them, he'd get to play against some of the best teams in the world in the Champion's League. which, even though Celtic usually get pummelled, nonetheless means Snodgrass would get to play in those games and test himself against the best.

Mousa Dembele went there from Fulham, turning down offers from big clubs in Europe and here because he wasn't willing to sit on the bench at a bigger club or sit in the development squad at Man City. These lads aren't stupid, they know Celtic dominate, it's because they play in the Champion's League and get a chance to test themselves there.

Plus Dunfermline play in the league below.

They wouldn't have to pay Snodgrass £40k a week if he wants to go there, he'll probably take the pay cut if he wants to play for Celtic that badly.

That will be the test. Whilst his earning potential is greater, I don't see why any sane individual would. He could go to Celtic in 3-4 years time and still improve the team.

Scott Brown - Best paid player at Celtic £25k a week - 2015/16 season.

    Summer 2016:

Brendan Rogers made best paid manager in SPL history - sets precedent of now being willing to pay at least as much as anyone else has been paid in SPL history, for the right person. Rodgers himself says the wage cap has been scrapped as part of him joining and he just has an overall budget to spend as he sees fit.

    - Scott Sinclair leaves £60k/w deal at Villa to join Celtic
    - Moussa Dembele turns down PL to join Celtic
    - Kolo Toure passes up chance to use status for move to China/MLS/Far East to go play in Glasgow.

I'm sure all 3 of those did that just for Brendon and not for big wages.

If it's a question of money we should pay Snodgrass what he wants within reason,
It's a far greater risk to have to pay a fee to replace him plus the wages then have to have that player bed in when Snoddy already knows the club inside out.

    Test himself?

"Och no, we've been pumped by some minnows fae Malta again. Never mind we might just scrape intae the CL proper, where we will get humiliated by Steua Bucharest."

He can test himself every week in the PL in the Big League (copyright Steve Bruce).

They didn't get humiliated. We are being humiliated more in the prem than they are in the champions league. They Man City didn't beat them over two legs.

Plus dembele and Sinclair will 100% be on over 30k per week. And Rodgers is on 2.6 mill

    Celtic
Go and Google. It's commonly acknowledged Celtic operated a tiered salary system for players and the top salary band is £25k a week.

Toure - He's 35 worked with Rodgers before.
Sinclair - He's worked with Rodgers before.
Dembele - He's young, maybe thought he'd play more for Celtic than be an unused sub at a bigger club.
