Beer and wine in the house of Stan. Mrs Stan doesn't really drink, she has the occasional glass of wine (ironic given she has to live with me, by rights she should need a constant supply of alcohol just to get through the day), Mother-in-law Stan doesn't really drink either for medical reasons, Father-in-law Stan is convinced that the world will run out of Chardonnay so makes sure he gets as much into him as quickly as possible, I drink beer, wine and occasionally cider. I like whiskey but try to avoid it as it gives me a shocking hangover. Partial to a gin and tonic but not at home.
I discovered a cheap Cloudy Bay substitute recently. I'll get a bottle of that for Mrs Stan to sip though.
And I'll get a bottle of Cloudy Bay for me![]()
It's the classic Kiwi Sauvignon. It's fantastic but in truth it's now overpriced as there are very similar wines that cost a lot less. What is Cloudy Bay?

I used to like Oyster Bay but found one half the price but just as enjoyable. The Chilean stuff can be quite good.
Always found the Aussie and NZ whites a bit heavy and syrupy, always go French with white (Chablis). Is this really that good then?

Marlborough estate Sauvignon Blanc is the best by far.
Got a Serrano leg. .
Better than Chablis?
What the hell do you do with that Srano leg? It's huge I'd be eating it for a year?
The Chardonnays can be too thick and oaky. The Sauvignons are zesty. Some of the cheaper ones are too acidic which really ****s with my reflux. I find that the entry level priced ones are all like that so it's always nice to find a reasonably priced one that is zesty but doesn't burn on the way back up!Always found the Aussie and NZ whites a bit heavy and syrupy, always go French with white (Chablis). ... have you tried a bread poultice?
No idea what that is.
Wanted a iberico leg as they are superior. But Lidl had sold out. They use pedigree black pig and it gets fed on chestnuts. Bloody lovely.

Rebthe wine yes. I prefer Sauvignon blanc to Chablis. Though if I'm going French premium wine I'm quite partial to Sancerre.
I like the crispness of a Marlborough estate Sauvignon. I'm not really a white wine drinker. Prefer red. Haven't decided what I'm buying yet. Will buy a couple of expensive ones then some decent mid range and a couple of cheap ones for visitors.
I noticed that Lidl did the black hooved pigs which are supposed to be top notch. I'm tempted to get one.
