I though we were easily worth the draw, we had the lion's share of the possession and worked as many decent positions as Villa, sometimes it is just fine margins as to whether there is a chance or shot at the end of good move. That said our lack of goal threat is a worry. Feel sorry for Washington, he can't be the lone striker, we'll never see the best of him playing in this way.
There was times in the second half where smithies was literally keeping us in the game. I'm struggling to believe we worked as many good positions or matched villa at all, it's certainly not the game I saw. Fair enough we weren't overawed or dominated, but to suggest we matched them is laughable.
I've been drinking heavily all day and only vaguely kept up with the score. If Mackie was our best player see you in League One which might be more fun than this ****. The fact that Mackie was even picked as a sub tells you all we need to know, we have a **** squad, Ollie doesn't have a clue and the management/owners superstructure should set themselves on fire in the centre circle at the start of the next game. Mind you I am pissed and the rest of the world is looking quite rosy from my perspective, so who gives a ****, it's only a game.
Only ****ing QPR could get taken over by super rich owners and make such a complete and utter cock up of things! League 1 here we come.
I didn't say we were great Col, we're just not as bad as some seem to think. The players are good enough.
I can understand all the doom and gloom but a lot of the analysis of today's game is wide of the mark. We played some decent football at times and enjoyed plenty of possession. The defence looked reasonably solid and when they lapsed the best goalkeeper in the division came to the rescue. The Villa goal was an unfortunate combination of some flukey play and Smithies only lapse of the game. As with Derby and several other games we could and should have come away with at least a point and much as I'm a Holloway doubter he really hasn't enjoyed a shred of good fortune since that first game. That said, a team that doesn't actually shoot at the opposition goal is never going to win games and Washington looks less and less effective with each passing game. Clearly January needs to bring at least one striker who actually knows where the goal is. In the meantime Polter and Sylla in combination must surely be worth a go. And why the feck isn't Shodipo used more?
Several of our defenders (particularly lynch and Bidwell) were regularly skinned by the Villa front men. Villa used the flanks really well and got in behind us several times. In the game I saw we were awful. Lots of stray pssses and literally NO penetration. My group all agreed we were very lucky to only lose 0-1
You are right there imo. Under Jimmy we weren't brilliant but we were hanging in there with encouraging signs. We are now a føkkin mess. We need a decent Manager.
They gave Holloway 2.5 years! Sheer madness unless they got loads of money or they can terminate him now for peanuts.
I'd like to stand back and view our situation with a degree of separation but I'm afraid I might fall off the cliff
I don't mean to dig you out personally, but I feel it's the other way round. I think there's a lot of fans that have us down as better than we actually are. Maybe that's part of the problem, too much expectation? You can't seriously take let's say, the last ten games or so, and think these players have been or are good enough? Not to mention the fact we've had two different managers in that process
Just watched a recording of the game. A huge disapointment. On the positive side it looked to me like the players gave 100 %, Smithies was brilliant apart from the goal. Mackie was good when he came on but couldnt convert the chance Shodipo gave him. Shodipo also did well. I was surprised how well Hall did in midfield -think it was him that played an immaculate through ball to Pawel early on that he should of converted. But there was so little of this, we seemed badly organised, Pawel is best out right, but seemed too start left and appeared all over the park, and made at least 2 game losing errors in our own box. Yeni was hardly in the game. Bidwell looked not well at all. Washington tried and tried but he doesn't look a striker, certainly not a lone one. TF needs to get us a new experienced Manager now, and fund a good striker and attacking midfielder at least in January. He cant wait til end of the season, we could well be League 1 then. The players we have aren't good enough for promotion but ought to be good enough for this League, but dont look it now under this Manager. We look strong relegation candidates. which we never did under Jimmy or Ramsey.
No problem LC, I don't take anything personally. I do, though, think that the group of players that we currently have are good enough as a bunch of individuals, The problem, of course, is that they are not playing to their full potential. It's not that hard to understand why though is it? Several players are new to the country and will need time to acclimatise, whilst the constant changing of managers and coaches is bound to be detrimental. Patience is required.
I was at a party this evening and my mate Steve who sits in Ellerslie Road W block ( or thereabouts) said that there's a bloke who sits behind him and has a booming voice. He often shouts/encourages the players and has done so all season. In the last few games he has taken his ire out on Nedum Onuoha and his captaincy. From what I gathered some of these booming requests were ... ''Nedum we can't hear you.'' ''Nedum show some leadership.'' etc He also calls out the other players if he feels that they aren't putting a shift in. Perch and Ngbakoto were two other recipients today and whoever else happens to be playing on that side of the pitch when they're not. At the end of today's game Onuoha went over and asked who was the person who keeps shouting? My mate turns around and said to the bloke I think he means you mate. This bloke who has a walking stick went down to speak to Nedum. Nedum grabbed his hands and said to him ... ''Can you stop shouting at us you're not helping the team.'' The conversation was more prolonged and I'm not sure what else was said but the sentence above would've been the main gist of it I'd imagine. Weird or what?
If true, Ned was doing his job well by giving him the message. Thought he and Perch played quite well today.
I saw that exchange taking place and wondered what was going on. Those around gave Ned a round of applause after.
