now i thought i was fairly fluent in MITOese but wtf is mathcingif on average everyone covers 11km per game then unless you are messi (who does 6) you'd better be mathcing your opposition.

I think there's a reason Man Utd by the middle of September had covered less ground than any other premier league team though. He's probably working as hard as he can but I don't think its ever going to be close to the amount of miles younger, more agile players of the league are covering.
Why on earth would you want your players to "cover miles"?
The idea of the game is to keep possession and score goals, if the other team is chasing the ball around the pitch then all is well because they will tier first and start to leave gaps.
An ancient sage once said "let the ball do the work" and he was right
(if we ever want to win the most miles run trophy we can always sign Usain Bolt, he is desperate to play for us and could come on for the last 15mins of games to bring the stats up)
Of course you have to move to keep possession, but a clever players only have to move a few yards to find space and make the ball move 20/30 yards to find them.if on average everyone covers 11km per game then unless you are messi (who does 6) you'd better be mathcing your opposition.

you can't keep possession without moving.
in the end if my team can cover 12km in a game and yours tires on 70mins then you will probably get chances late.
funny how a utd fan doesn't seem to recognise why utd scored so many late goals and dominated the 1990s totally by being better athletes and more professional
The contrast in wathing LFC with puddings like dicks, stweart, ruddock etc playing while utd had atheltes in thier team was plain to see.
Good job you're not a football manager mate. You want Mo Farah for that, not Usain Bolt!

United have had some fine athletes over the years but they never wasted their energy, they used it later in games to break fast and score when the other teams were knackered from chasing all over the pitch trying and win the ball back.

It is in the same category as "wathing", football related jargonnow i thought i was fairly fluent in MITOese but wtf is mathcing

So you are saying that the two teams wouldn't clock up enough mileage to make it a good game then? But if your players don't move them the opposition don't need to cover as much ground either (unless pressing which would be fairly easy if your players aren't moving)
Sorry but I think you will find managers are talking about competing for the ball and being sharp/alert enough to get to a loose/second ball first. You don't have to run a marathon for that, if you need to run a marathon then you are chasing the ball far too much because you have little control and the other team is passing through/around you.Exactly this. Its what managers mean when they talk about earning the right to play against a team.

Long may it continue.....I love the way everybody takes Liverpool seriously, Piskie's latest comment on Arsenals match day thread against City
"To be honest. I'd take a draw, although 3 points would set a big marker for us. As long as we don't lose though, because otherwise that will put both chelsea and City ahead of us, which would be psychologically damaging at this stage of the season."

Probably an oversight but as a Manc I did find it amusingLong may it continue.....

In all honesty, we don't have the recent pedigree so it's easy enough to assume we'll fade away. Who can tell?Probably an oversight but as a Manc I did find it amusing![]()
