Same here! I was lucky enough to be at Silvetstone in '92 and was part of the shameful (bloody fantastic) track invasion.

I so miss Nige. The king of excuses, but a bloody fantastic racer. Such emotion, such determination and one of the very few to not be crushed by Senna. I miss those days.

Wish I'd been there in 92! Mansell had a great fighting spirit. I read his autobiography recently and he had to overcome a lot of adversity, his family weren't keen on him racing, and he had to deal with a lot of difficult situations, didn't know of any of this at the time.

All i remember mansell for was whining about not fitting in the mclaren, and blaming mclaren for it, when in reality, he was just too fat.

The car was a pile of crap too. Mansell thought it would kill him.

He could have so easily failed and become nothing. The same determination that took him all the way to F1 was the same determination that made him a thoroughly determined and exciting racer.

Had he been Brazilian or Italian, he would be held (I believe) in higher esteem with British people today.

Can't you let them be? They are better of in the teams they are in right now... no need to argue...

    How silly.
    _ - - _

    Moving on…
Any list of my 'favourite' drivers very much includes their personality as well as their driving; here's a quick list, which does not include those whom I've only admired on track, or anyone who was previously a favourite whom I've since come to know better (such as Nigel Mansell):

    Jim Clark
    Sir Stirling Moss
    Graham Hill
    Damon Hill
    Mika Hakkinen
    Juan Pablo Montoya

There are also several candidates on today's grid, which I believe includes some of the greatest number of top-talented drivers ever found in F1 at the same time; but it would be wrong for me to include them in this list.

Well put, Julius. I think Prime Minister Cameron was looking for a reaction.

I have to agree. It was a stupid comment out of context and unacceptable. Sorry to anyone who offended.

No offense taken. We all do it to some degree, eh? ;)

And oh the excitement of watching Mansell taking on Senna and Prost. Great days.

Can't put my finger on it, but something about Mansell rubbed me up the wrong way, preferred Prost to all others until suzuka 89 (on lap 46 he taught me cynicism and hypocrisy).

I loved watching Mansell racing on the track. At the time I was fairly young so either didn't know or didn't care about what happened off the track.

    I just loved watching it.
