My late Father in Law, a trawler chief engineer, introduced me to that concoction many years ago, lovely, but for a change he also suggested and indeed made me a few dark rum (Captain Morgan's) and port. Daft sod that I was he swigged his off in one gulp so I followed suit, knocked my bluddy head off as of corse he was used to it, my then future wife was not pleased with her dad, I was lol.
Liverpool's best-known fan group, the Spirit of Shankly, has adopted a motion to consult its membership on safe standing... http://www.fsf.org.uk/latest-news/v...ses-safe-standing-motion#sthash.HmH0Z833.dpuf
Martyn Ziegler @martynziegler Breaking - West Ham co-owner David Gold says Premier League "have taken first step " towards safe standing.
doubt it'll happen in the prem due to hillsbrough even though it's much safer than standing is currently.. i even cut my leg on the back of a seat when we scored once..
Martyn Ziegler @martynziegler Premier League statement imminent confirming clubs have asked for detailed report into implications of safe standing.
The implications would be cheaper tickets for some, slightly larger capacity and more atmosphere. Whether some of the power that be think that is desirable is another matter. I don't think we will see anything like the Yellow Wall st Dortmund, which holds as many as the KC, rather a token 2,000 or so sears even in the larger stadiums.
Not sure it would make it any cheaper and most grounds can't increase the capacity due to health and safety restrictions. It should improve the atmosphere though, even if it is only a few thousand.
You could make a few cheaper, like they do in Germany and which, of course, are the prices always quoted when showing how cheap German football supposedly is. Thing is, unless you have a large terrace it eounfn't make it a lot cheaper as the numbers wouldn't be there. There are few grounds left where they could do a large standing area like in Germany as so many have two tiers, many split by a row of hospitality boxes. Ironically, the one large single tiered Kop remaining where they could have 15-20,000 stood up for domestic games is the one in Liverpool.
how will it improve atmosphere....whole ends stand up at grounds at the present time....its only by cheaper prices and getting the under 20's back in the grounds will atmosphere improve.
You could make it cheaper, but this is the PL and clubs have never really had the fans best interests at heart, especially when there's money to be made. They could have let people in free this year and still made more money than they did last year. Unfortunately like you say most current grounds don't have the right configuration for large areas of terracing. It would be interesting to see if it ever got approved that newly built grounds would start to be designed with that in mind.
I disagree, bigger attendances usually create a better atmosphere. It will of course help if the north stand singers get it going and city score. Also, say to the kids "sing else I'm taking your i-phone off you and you're not getting any food"
Have a look at Celtic, I know their fans are pretty good anyway but their safe standing area is something else.
