http://www.football-observatory.com/IMG/sites/b5wp/2016/172/en/ Interesting article which lists the top 100 most expensive players calculating on variables such as a player's performance (minutes, goals, etc.) and characteristics (age, contract, etc.), as well as data on employer clubs and potential recruiting ones. Southampton have two on the list. #43 Van Dijk €60.2 Mill #78 Redmond €42.4 Mill Amusing as i assume many on here would snap someone's arm off if someone bid 40 Million for Redmond (Personally i think he is a brilliant winger and is being played out of position) Secondly if someone bid that for Van Dijk now would you accept? Finally, if we have a value for each player, how much would you accept for each player in our squad? Discuss
He has played out wide for the majority of the season now. Arguably he had better form in the early part of the season when he was up front! Although I admit I do believe he is a winger not a striker.
Bids I would accept: Forster - £15m Bertrand - £25m Virgil - £70m Yoshida - £10m (if Fonte situation wasn't a thing) (£20m with Fonte situation) Cedric £10m Hojbjerg - £20m Romeu - £20m Redmond - £18m Tadic - £20m Rodriguez - £15m Long - £10m Boufal - £30m
I think those Saints player valuations show how difficult it is to formulate something like this. VVD must be worth at least x3 Redmond. And btw, I'd feel cheated if we sold Virgil for any less than €60M
If I'd devised a valuation algorithm that threw out the result of £42.4M for Redmond, I'd give up any hope of ever being a statistician.
