I hope this quiz is a success. Good luck!

I am at a small town in the East of England; it is an amalgamation of two Roman settlements and is listed in the Domesday Book; today’s population is just short of 9000 inhabitants
The town was granted its first market charter in the mid 13th century and held two fairs a year until the 19th century; during WW2 an airfield was established nearby as a home to British and American squadrons
A particular ritual is held in the town every four years, in which a lucky couple are awarded with a large quantity of meat; this ancient custom is mentioned in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales
Notable people to have lived in the town include a Protestant martyr, an Emmerdale Farm actor, a Governor General of Canada, and a celebrity tradesman

I am at a Scottish village located in the Central Lowlands; during the early 14th century, Robert the Bruce granted the settlement and immediate lands to a former sheriff of the shire; today’s population stands at approximately 6000
The village developed a successful brick-works during the 18th century, but this fell into disuse following the collapse of the local mining industry; a secondary village was created to house the local miners
The village is known for its strong football traditions and has produced many successful youth teams; in fact, one of Scotland’s most prominent players started out with the village’s primary junior team
Notable residents of the village include an Irish show-jumper, a master of works to the Scottish Crown, and a Bishop of Moray

I am at a town located in the county of Powys, Wales; the town’s backdrop is a 400 metre-high mountain, which served as the area’s defence and housed a fortress; the town’s current population is approximately 6,600
The town is home to the starting point of a narrow-gauge heritage railway; to the south of the town you will a find a small airport, where an air show is held annually and the local air ambulance is based
The town hosts one of the world’s largest livestock fairs; the town is home to many sporting teams, including football, rugby union, hockey and cricket; no one of any great note has resided in this town
During the 1800s the town’s name was lengthened in order to distinguish it from an English town with a similar sounding name
