Disappointed Ginger. Hope & pray this doesn't upset the apple cart. Southampton look formidable under that French guy. Hope we don't carry this lethargy into the weekend.
Was a good game, certainly helped us that Conte made so many changes. would've liked to have kept a clean sheet, but we started to look a bit leggy in the last 15mins or so. Payet should've scored at the end, but I think Zaza accurately passing to him proved too much of a shock.
costas dink had to go in! fully expected us to win that if he scored, oh well/ the boss changed too much, it didnt pay off, willian, oscar and jt gott som minutes whicch is nice. eat, drink and e merry lads, life goes on
Haha - true story. But Fair result. Spammers deserved to win this by a goal. Could have been 5-4 easily.
Wanted some kids in, but too many changes saw disjointed performance. JT looked very poor and off the pace, understandable, but don't see how he can feature regularly in a back 3. Oscar is just not the player we hoped, the kids underwhelmed collectively. Hammers deserved to win, they were up and at us all game and we struggled to play a team game. Hope this doesn't deter Conte from making way for our youngsters when possible, but just one or two at a time !!
Good excuse to rest several players - League Cup is a useful tool to blood youngsters nothing more nothing less. I for one will not lose too much sleep over this even if we did get turned over by the Spammers, tricky little number down at St Mary's has a higher priority.
Why so many changes when you're only in 3 comps and know you don't have midweek Europe to worry about all season?
I think he under estimated them by playing so many youngsters also he probably wanted to rest key players with the Soton game coming up. Well he's learned that one now eh?
the issue was that both oscar and willian were on compasionate leave, dnt think either has played for 3 weeks maybe? they werent even here when the switch to 3 happened! add in an unfit JT, and 2 kinds, thats half the outfield 11 compromised...its a lesson for him, that kindo of thing will work in italy, but over here it just doesnt fly! chalobah had a decent game, aina was overwhelmed. the other 3 im reserving judgeent, because considering the circumstances i think it'd be unfair to judge
Well I called it. West Ham were always going to take this game very seriously. Conte, much like Pep I think devalued the competition a bit and failed to understand the rivalries involved. If we were playing away at a Sunderland etc you could perhaps justify that team selection but not away to West Ham under the lights. Won't read too much into individual or collective performances because West Ham were simply more up for it than us and played their first team. Had a couple of our good chances gone in, we may have even won it. Good game and we move on. Just disappointed that we are out of the cup when we should have given it more of a go with a stronger (i.e more settled) line up. It was a strong line up personnel wise but a lot of these have not been playing the new system in games. Also Stan, you can't really moan that we're out when you were calling for pretty much 9-10 changes to the first team that beat United!
True enough, Chalobah was better than underwhelming, and it was tough for any of them to hit the ground running in that lineup.
