Watford FC can confirm its retained list following the end of the 2016/17 Premier League season.

Goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin and forward Mathias Ranegie have left the club after the expiration of their contracts.

Under-23 players Andrew Eleftheriou, Brandon Mason, Connor Stevens and Carl Stewart have been offered new deals. Ola Adeyemo, Charlie Bannister, Ogo Obi and Rhyle Ovenden have all been released.

Second-year Academy scholars Joy Mukena, Dion Pereira, Louis Rogers and Max Ryan have all been offered professional terms with the club, while Josh Roe and Treon Johnson will leave Watford at the end of their scholarships. Goalkeeper Andrew Thomas has left the club to take up a scholarship in the United States.

My guess is that Pantilimon may end up at Boro, given that both Valdes and Guzan have left.

Success confident of a better season without WM...

 

You got to think that with Success getting more game time, both Pereyra & Zarate to come back, andthe potential of Berghuis staying as well... attacking-wise we aren't looking too bad and not much change really needed.

If Behrami goes then think we need to fill a hole at DM, then across the back line we could do with strengthening.

 

Hope Berghuis does come back and is given a chance..

Same with Success.

I did read somewhere Zarate actually wanted to go back to Argentina but that might have been agent talk or the player just feeling a bit sorry for himself.

 

At the end of his career he said.

 

I think Berghuis may well want to play Champions League Football next season. I don't think they'll be involved after Xmas. Perhaps a July- Jan loan then have him back?

Looks like it, but, "He will complete his move to Watford in June, but the expects to move on loan elsewhere in Europe while the club work to circumvent the UK’s notoriously difficult work permit process."

 

Sad to say Fez but probably realistic. Teams like Feyenoord and Ajax, despite having been top names in European football, do not have the financial clout to challenge at the top of European football in the way they once did. The same applies to any clubs outside of Spain, Germany, Italy, England and (maybe) France. The Champions League has a lot to answer for.

So we are going to sign somebody else who cannot actually play for us?

 

I don't really mind that too much, as long as it's not taking a big chunk of transfer money from a player we need now...

If it means we get a good player for much cheaper than it would cost in 3 years, then get them on our books!
