Might be posted somewhere, else, but rumours saying Barca are interested in Virgil. No surprise there - go on Virgil, stay with us for a couple more seasons, then go there for the future!
He has also mentioned not needing the money.....things are not always just one thing. If he was that keen, he would have gone....but money being matched, wife not keen and pretty happy at Saints may have all swung it for Tiss. And he is also pretty laid back....perhaps he didn't fancy being made to work. And our own memories of our lives is not always completely accurate....we all embroider our histories.
There's some information out there that he is perfectly happy as a Saint, and he and his family are settled and reluctant to move out of the area because of a newborn. So for now we have a good chance of at least one more season IMO ,but after that.....who knows?
Strange how people remembering LeTiss staying varies so much. From reading his book he had a couple very serious opportunities to leave us, but Spurs was the biggest. He got as far as sitting in a room with relevant paperwork all ready to go. But what was key is, nothing was signed & that night while in a hotel room with his then partner, they had a long chat about happiness & he spurned the move, The rest as they say is history. And I don't think we matched the money he was offered either, the most he ever earned with us was £4,800 a week. Now if any of that is wrong, I really don't want to know, because my memories of Matt are my favorite football possessions.
I, for one, would be very happy to see him stay with us for another season and then go to Barca. He's too good for any other premier league team.
I've said for a while that I strongly believe that Virgil will stay for at least another year. I'd love him to stay for at least two then go to Barca - I think he'd have a lot of fans' blessings if that happened.
City won't buy him in the summer. They are after Laporte, so I can't see them spending £100m+ on two cbs.
I was in the room when he was talking about it. He was pretty certain. It showed that he didn't just stay at Saints out of loyalty. He stayed because his wife didn't want their lives to change.
