Conclusive proof that Virgil is planning on staying with the club for one season after this. Ultra reliable source who are always spot on https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/foot...et-to-snub-move-away-and-stay-at-southampton/ Okay, maybe not so reliable - but after a rough spell and a few bad injuries we could all do with a lift before Wembley!!!
Is this one of those times when the sun becomes a respected newspaper and we believe everything it says?
Always been a big fan of the sun, really know what they're talking about When they're being positive anyway.
I have always believed that Virgil will stay another season if he isn't pushed out for the money*. And he owes us if he is going to be a malingerer to the end of the season. *My spider senses are not infallible.
So, when they write new articles like this, don't they think it would be a appropriate to also include an apology to some of the unsubstantiated bull that they have written previously like he has a £20M release clause, Chelsea have dibs, Everton look likely, Man Utd have opened talks, Liverpool have got his doctor on a personal plane on stand by......okay so I made that last one up, but you get the point. I think Virgil may well stay for another year, but that opinion has nothing to do with what the sun has wrote.
And the Star.... Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, 25, is ready to turn down Manchester City and Liverpool and stay at St Mary's beyond the end of the season. (Daily Star)
It most certainly is! Joking aside, it is quite nice I see a big paper even acknowledge the fact he might stay another year with little old southampton!
Sounds like another Saints favourite who was staying, but was kidnapped and sold into slavery to Liverhampton.
I did say we have been talking to him about staying on another year. So we can get Fonte's replacement settled and have a back four that isn't totally new. Whether it happens or not is another matter.
Maybe he has a vision. Just maybe, he doesn't want history to remember him as a money grabbing mercenary. Instead, he sees himself as bedecked in red and white, leading his team mates to the promised land. He will stand atop St Mary's Stadium and declare: "I had a dream last night." And Gabbiadini will scream "Alleluia, brother. I have scored so many goals that now I am courted by every club in the world, but it is here with you, brother Virgil, where I shall stay until the end of my playing days." And the Northam end will put away it's cynicism, brothers and sisters. Dejan Lovren will be treated with kindness when he plays at SMS. Adam Lallana will beg to be re-admitted to the clan. I'll just get the door. It's the nice people from Mental Health.
You could look at it this way. Would The Sun or Star say anything good about Southampton FC unless there was a grain of truth in it.? As it happens I've been between 80-90% sure VVD would be staying another full season. One thing I do find though is that two seasons seem to go by in a flash.
