Haha fine, but point still stands, you were saying 30m was the price for a quality centre back. I just pointed out (apart from Luiz this year and even then he's 29), all of the centre backs around 30m are not quality. Even strikers at that price are a risk at quality. Mane was a great buy. Benteke not so much. If you want a quality CB nowadays you are paying more than 30 if they have proven they are top quality
I didn't see the game, but the stats say 1 shot on target all game, which would suggest that your issues lay at the other end of the pitch
You could argue many things in this particular game tbh and your point is a fair one, whenever teams set up like that against us without Mane this season, we lack a cutting edge. No doubt. The one undeniable fact is that if you don't concede after you have scored the first goal, one shot or not, you win the game. We don't always suffer with a lack of cutting edge (lots of stats to prove that) but given how they set up and our lack of man-power, I'd prefer us to shut the game down or at least not be cut open by one pass! It's happened too often this season.
Not on Sunday it wasn't Klopp is simply not a manager who'll lock down a home game against a side like Palace after 25 mins. I think his argument would be that you lacked a cutting edge and 1 effort on target from 14 cost you.
You missed the words "Could be" from that sentence mate. Attempting to win 1-0 is a risky business. When was the last time a team went an entire season without conceding a goal?
It was in that game, but we're still top scorers (just) in the PL so that shows that it isn't a consistent problem. Our defending, however, certainly is. We struggle to break down certain teams in certain games, but the defence looks vulnerable almost every game.
There's almost certainly a correlation between the 2 mate. Klopp's style of high press / high line, is always going to leave you vulnerable to the counter, especially at home against sides who will come and sit deep against you.
But our attack did their job which is to score a goal. Our defence didn't do their job because they conceded. Twice. I'm not saying we have to win 1-0 every time but we should be able to attack teams, looking for more goals without being so vulnerable to making stupid errors.
Thing is - teams aren't catching us on the break with a quick counter. All they are doing Is a long ball down our left channel and they're in.
I don't know much about him to be honest. Maybe it's my age, but spending £50m on a player that is currently injured, makes my eyes water.
Apart from his current injury he's had 4 days out in 5 years. And I doubt we'd pay £50m for him although someone else possibly will
I don't disagree. This was partly the point I was making earlier in the need for better players debate. We often get thwarted by teams that have an organised defence, but that doesn't mean they have better defenders. In the long run the table shows that it only works to a certain extent, and even those with a reputation for solid defending have no better a defensive record than we have. With the probable exception of Mourinho teams, the more defence-minded teams are usually mid-table - for a reason. To try and succeed at the top you generally need a more adventurous approach, but this is a high-risk strategy - and we're just slipping up far too often at the moment.
