Interesting that Arsene has recently been arguing that CL football is no longer the prize it used to be. In financial terms, the CL no longer represents the pot of gold it used to. UEFA has been complaining the premiership monies dwarf the money that CL competitors receive. And even the eventual CL winners do not get as much as the club coming last in the premiership. The CL now "only" represents the prestige of competing in Europe's top competition and attracting players who are "desperate" to play in it. Even that nowadays, if you pay these players enough, they may conveniently forget about it. Will we see a flood of players leaving clubs coming 5th and 6th, because of lack of CL football? Unlikely.
interesting as in he's making excuses for not getting it? I'm sorry wenger but the return is very high indeed and it is only in the context of temporary english league madness. If you are so rich that you don't think 40/50mil extra is not worth it and then refuse to pay the wages everyone else will you will end up in the ditch pretty quick the fact is irrespective of what the last place club in the prem gets.... the CL money is on top of that... and its then vital to attract the palyers to drive the commerical revenue globally. the fact is if LFC had CL for last 10 years and alexis sanchez we would be marketing him globally far more than the ****s at the emirates can. They've wastd the period of huge revenues and are also rans in everyone's minds. globally are arsenal even a force? after 2004 they should have been. Carl you are dead right you will only get avergae guys out for a quick buck not the top players with an attitude like this the ozils of this world lol
He's been great since joining Saints bit is it a true reflection or is he another flash in the pan? He'd certainly bring the big powerful presence to the back line. Not sure Matip would be happy in the bench though #teamlovren
Can't see us dropping Clyne and he's not good enough offensively to be WB. Would suit Moreno or Milner on the other side though

BUY HIM BUY HIM Or not whatever. He is awesome player imo. Best cb not at a top 4 club... and then hes better than most of those. Imo alderweirld and him should be cbs in prem team of year.
VDV would be an immense signing - £50m is a lot but it's better than spending half of that on some piece of **** like we typically do. Don't think we'll get him or Atletico's Gimenez but it's nice to be linked with quality once in a while instead of the likes of Keane and Ginter.
Milner doesn't have the pace or the ability to play in any defensive role. I really want to see TAA be given more opportunities though. He looks a real talent. The dream would be to bring in an upgrade on Clyne - I like him but he has quite a few limitations.
I would be seriously impressed if we bought him. However, even if we are in talks, I'm fully expecting us to bid around £30m and for one of Chelsea, Utd et al to stump up the £50m that it's gunna take while we're considering whether to up out initial offer by a couple of million and a packet of crisps... #realityhurts
I agree that Alderweireld & Van Dijk are probably the strongest too but the formers not had the greatest of seasons so far imo
