And so it goes on,one of the best actors of any generation. So many great roles to chose from, memorably The Elephant Man. But one of my personal favourites was his portrayal of Bob Champion in the film Champions, incredibly moving and superbly acted, also with the late Edward Woodward. Alas, another great has caught The Midnight Express and departed our company. Too many people have gone who have enriched our lives, while so many scuzzers seem to endlessly multiply !
His role as Joseph Merrick was undoubtedly his best, but how many of us remember him magnificently playing Quentin Crisp? RIP
I was going to say exactly the same......roles that many other actors would have walked away from but he was absolutely brilliant in both......such a shame he was never recognised by being awarded an Oscar during his career although the bafta's gave him due recognition......we've lost a true great......RIP.
It was his breakthrough role as well. Took a lot of courage to play the part. Probably the best decision of his career. Will ITV repeat it as a tribute to him I wonder?
R.I.P. John Wetton «Mogul Trash», «Family», «King Crimson», «Roxy Music», «Uriah Heep», «Wishbone Ash» og «Asia» Not a bad list of bands.
That is so sad, I don't watch Rugby very often because I don't really get all of the rules, but I do remember watching him, he was brilliant. So young, so sad. RIP and thoughts to his family.
All you need to know, Cate, is that it's played by men with funny shaped balls. ...and often funny shaped ears too.

Joost van der Westhuizen - one of only a handful of South African rugby players I could name. Brilliant scrum half, had the world at his feet. So sad to get that terrible illness. RIP Alan Simpson of Galton and Simpson - simply brilliant British humour from two working class lads - "A pint? Have you gone raving mad? I mean, I came here in all good faith, to help my country. I don't mind giving a reasonable amount, but a pint? Why, that's very nearly an armful." RIP Tara Palmer Tomkinson - Privileged, talented, wealthy, well connected and once beautiful - but indulgent and perhaps a tortured soul. What a waste. RIP
Very sad, heard she had brain tumour, was beautiful in younger years but drug addiction took over, RIP
So true shefford.....that is too quick and too soon... Need to make the most of every day we have... Off to drink with hubby ....even though he doesn't know what a superhoop is
