And build a team around? A team/squad for a possible promotion even.

I'd love to keep the Jak, he's a very good keeper and also offers personality, team spirit and fan engagement.

Tom Huddlestone is a masterful football player and that's something we all want to see, right?

Sam Clucas. We haven't seen the best of him, I'm sure of that. Pace, aggression, fire and skill. Much more to come.

Grosiki. I think he would tear the championship a new one. A dodgy first season with us for me, but at this level I think he'd be a real threat.

Abel. He's a proven goalscorer at this level and does anyone on here realistically believe we might sign a better striker?

Meyler. He's what you need in the championship and we have a spooky record of winning when he plays.

Iv'e left a couple out because I don't think we have any sort of chance to keep them.

We keep a decent spine then I can't see a relegation battle

    Jak/Marshall
    Dawson/ANO
    Thud/Evandro/Clucas/Mason (hopefully fit again)
    Abel/Dio

With a couple of shrewd incomers to partner Aina and returners inc Mason/Keane/Moses we might even have a realistic pop at the play-offs.

It's a tricky question kemps because we have no idea if Ehab will spend the proceeds. We've sold maguire which is a bad move if the £17 million goes straight in ehabs wallet but if that buys us 2 decent players to add to the decent core of a team then great

We've got the core of a good championship team imo,

    Elmohamady can get to ****. £3m? :emoticon-0110-tongu

I'd actually forgotten about Evandro, he looks a very tidy player to me.

Sloot will have something up his sleeve when it comes to incoming playing staff.

    I'm feeling unusually positive tonight.

Exactly this, with the possible exception of Huddlestone. I don't see loyalty, I see someone in a comfortable rut, not having to work to hard, not too bothered whether he plays or not. Quite happy on good Championship wages. I want more spark, more passion.

Thud was well on course to be our MOTM 123 player of the season until that red card and then Silva dropped him for some reason, who knows? But it didn't turn out well did it.

If we sell him for say £2m <grr> How much do think we'd have to pay for a player of similar quality?

Tom is a quality footballer in the right team; we have rarely had the right team available. He needs players to do the runs and be capable of collecting the ball, then finishing or assisting. He has a strong foot and can belt it, but he seems to have developed into a defensive midfielder and that doesn't play to his strengths anymore. Having said that, I would rather keep him than bring in what I fear we will be settling for.

Every player does what is asked of him. That's their job. Whenever Tom's played up the field, we've been more successful? I think his instructions have been the problem. Maybe Len will play him further up.

It was Steve Bruce who asked him to play behind our defence.

    As long as we have:

McGregor, Dawson, Clucas, Meyler, Henrikssen and Hernandez by the end of the window (and of course assuming we have brought in players to replace outgoings and flesh out the squad) I would be quite confident of our chances.

Surely this thread is the definition of a pointless thread given the movements that will inevitably happen.

    Bah humbug.

Henriksen will be an important player for us this season - young, fit, something to prove, pivotal position in the team.

A spine of Jakupovic/Marshall, Dawson, Henriksen, Hernandez will be at the core of our first XI. I'd add Clucas but I've a horrible feeling that he will be sold. Jak or Marshall as starting keeper, both are decent and capable of dominating at this level.

We need to keep all of them. We won't but it would be good if we could.

Good plan...I imagine Ehab is up for splashing out on a full new squad, and at least there's plenty of time for them to get used to each other...
