I see that the England ladies goalkeeper broke her leg in the game against France. The fact that she tried to carry on, but couldn't, brought catcalls and whistles because the fans thought she was time wasting. Little did they know.
I see that Eastleigh have signed Jersey captain Cavaghn Miley, after he played in a friendly for them.
It's my local team these days so I'll let you know how he does, assuming he gets into the side of course!
About thirteen clubs I think who have at one time been in the Football League, but now in the National League. Leyton Orient with 112 years of history, including one season in the first division have now slumped to this league. One player transfer fee would see many of these clubs be secure for years to come.
Leyton Orient was purchased a couple of months ago by Nigel Travis, an ex neighbour and friend before he made it big in America. He is extremely driven, I would expect him to succeed in gaining league status again. He was one of the very few golfers worse than me!!
Orient were ruined by a wannabe owner. they weerre also shafted by West ham. We are very lucky, post Red Hat Man. I wish them well.
I suppose it still remains a mugs game to invest in a football club not able to reach the promised land of the EPL. What Nigel has in his favour is a love for Leyton Orient from his childhood, great business skills and good sponsorship prospects from the large US food outlet chain(s) he presumably still runs. He also needs a lot of luck to unearth that gem they sell to Man City for 30 million.!!!
What a good owner needs is talent in being able to select the best people available and willing to do the jobs required. Ellon was good at that. It's when owners think they know about football that the trouble begins. Having a love for the club helps because that reduces the need to enhance ego.
The business attributes and contacts did not help Alan Sugar at Spurs though, he described football club ownership as a mugs game. With the introduction of Sky's silly money he would no doubt have a different perspective today.
Me too. The Champions League is destroying the game we love - it has degenerated into a monotonous, private affair for only the top leagues in Spain, Italy, Germany, England and France leaving once great clubs such as Ajax, Benfica.Anderlecht and Celtic on the sidelines (all of them bigger names in football than PSG will ever be). My favourite French club is now, officially, Olympique Marseille
Looks like the La Liga people are getting involved? Can they really stop this deal going through.. After all Real Madrid aren't exactly afraid to throw money around themselves! Speaking of Marseille and PSG - they aren't big rivals aren't they? A lad I met on holiday years ago when we were about 12/13 had a PSG shirt and they went on a day trip to the south of France (we were in the middle somewhere!) - he commented that there were a few angry glances in his direction!
Sarko under investigation in Qatar World Cup vote-buying. Nicolas Sarkozy under scrutiny in prosecutors' probe into Qatar World Cup vote-buying
Apparently, before joining Eastleigh he had a trial at a League club. It does mean that he can't play for Jersey again until he drops down to a certain level or the Jersey FA are admitted into UEFA, but they've done themselves some damage in that respect with the league being involved in the refereeing trial.
Burnley's 'friendly' match against Hannover has abandoned on police advice due to trouble caused by visiting fans.
Between each other as well! Should have just got Dyche to sort them out.. I see the mob from up the road scored a few...
I haven't seen that written anywhere - reports mostly lay the blame entirely on Hannover fans, who were wielding flick knives according to stewards.
