Why does he have to be black? Why not Asian, like Indian or Chinese? So ridiculous to have to put labels and race to things. I think it's better served if he were not black, but it would be more interesting if he or she were transgender and Thai. Just kidding. <laugh>

I think it should be Grayson Perry, he'd be everything the right-on PC BBC stands for and hopefully the Daleks would exterminate him and the rest of the luvvies...<laugh>

Whatever turns you on. Why not American? The Beeb could get hours of harmless fun out of sending up a certain fake politician rooting out fake daleks and fake news.

It's pathetic. Just like Bond, Spider-Man and Iron Man the PC Brigade have to tamper with this stuff. Why not just create a new character with a series of their own, rather than all this social engineering bullshit? Mind you, Doctor Who has been a BBC flagship vehicle for this kind of stuff ever since Russell T Davies brought it back. It's also been getting progressively more **** as time rolls along; some of the storylines Moffat has dredged up have been total ****e, as also has been the case with the "style over substance" that is Sherlock. Total self-obsessed, pretentious bollocks disguised as entertainment.

I loved Sherlock and have watched them all but it has been diminishing returns - only one of the last series (second episode) and the first two series were good (excellent in fact) whereas the rest have, as you rightly say, been style over substance and very disappointing. That, to me represents 7 episode from 12 (I think) which is a poor return.

I did enjoy Dr Who when David Tennant was there but have lost interest over the last few years.

How has Dr Who been a flagship for 'this kind of stuff'? It's not as if there has been anything other than white males in the title role.

I think Dr Who should be properly representative of the UK of today - an angry old white man who's very right wing and a bit racist. Someone like Richard Littlejohn, perhaps.

I used to. I really liked Christopher Ecclestone and then David Tennant. Haven't watched it recently though.

You didn't see the Victorian lizard sleuth and her human lesbian wife then? Nothing wrong with lesbianism., of course - I'm very much for it on places such as PornHub :) - although human/reptile relationships might require a little more contemplation. I'm not entirely sure, however, what any of it had to do with what was actually being offered up to us as a plot in that particularly episode.

Does it have to? It was just part of the stage furniture. It doesn't offend any one, lesbian and gay relationships have been around since time immemorial and it is regarded as acceptable to reflect that on TV these days. I doubt whether anyone saw the lesbian aspect of the relationship as abnormal as the fact that one was a prehistoric lizard who spoke Queen's English, had a lovely set of pearly white human teeth and a figure most human women would die for.

It really doesn't matter whether the Doctor is black, white or multi-coloured provided the actor (or actress at some point in time) can act and make the role credible. Credibility however should not depend on some pre-conceived notion that the Doctor has always been white, male and English speaking simply because he always has .

Similarly I agree with those who rail against the PC brigade. Strong performances deserve to be acknowledged whatever the colour of the performer. Ultimately there were no particularly prominent films which had black roles last year. This year there has clearly been a deliberate move by film-makers to do so this year and the films that have been produced which have black and Asian actors in starring roles have been extremely good. If any of them win, Viola Davis and Dev Patel already have in the BAFTAs, I trust we are not going to hear cries that they only won because they were Black and Asian respectively.

What I do find odd is the number of films and historical dramas which have ethnic actors in them even if they are set in a period of history when there were no blacks and Asians around. There may be some compelling justification for example in having Morgan Freeman play the role of a middle eastern warrior in Robin Hood- Prince of Thieves but I don't buy it. If there is I don't see it. You might as well have a Pornhub actress there to add a bit of historical authenticity.

I think they should give the job to comrade Corbyn. He will turn the Daleks all peace loving in some communist space outpost.
The BBC can save some money on companions because he hasn't got any.

That's how people feel, from their own race and prejudice experiences and not seeing their own familiar faces on TV and in film
