The thing I like most of all about Southgate is that in a way he is himself a graduate of the U21 set up. With his own personal knowledge of the players coming through at that level we could see some of them replacing some of the dinosaurs in the senior team, which could be very good for England.
I think Rashford has been promoted too early. I know everyone makes mistakes, but he does look a bit lost sometimes.
Hoddle mentioned game management, England have defended and retained possession terribly the last 10 minutes
Oh I wasn't saying that a slight against him at all mate. Just more of we're going English then there's no one really out there at the moment. I love Southgate, and hate that people slate him for his pen miss in 96. At least he had the bottle to take one unlike others. People who say managers and players don't care about the national team anymore go and watch the anthem pre that game and tell me Southgate doesn't give a toss
Was that affected by the subs made. In an important match, you wouldn't make changes when things were going well. On the other hand, it is quite common for a team to suddenly up their game at the end (as Spain did) and a goal turns the match on its head. Happens in the EPL as well.
More pluses than negatives, on last night's performance. Lots of good, quick passing and pressing as a unit. It seemed to rattle Spain, to a degree, which I think added to the atmosphere and gave the game that little bit more intensity than the average England friendly. Rooney must surely, now, be consigned to the role of squad player, maybe just coming off the bench as a last resort.

Be nice to have hung on for a win, but it was only a friendly. I was impressed with what I saw...one of the most hopeful performances for a while.
Really? Don 't be fooled Fran. I remember people being impressed with the performance against Germany in a 3-2 win just before a recent tournament.
