What has happened to his career.? A promising youngster who was treated abysmally by Dave Jones. Probably got big signing on fees at Celtic and Sunderland. Is this an example of a player just not wanting it and having too much money too soon. He looked a shadow of the 18 year old he was with us last time i seen him for Wales. Hes now having nightmares in albeit a terrible Bristol City team. Could he be worth a punt if no fee was involved to see if Warnock can resurrect his career? Or will it all end up with appearances on Scrum 5 with his mates with pint in hand. This could be like Darcy Blake and someone when they are past it wondering what might have been.
I was never a fan of Matthews but as you say he was not treated well by Jones. I hope he can resurrect his career but not with us. As for Darcy Blake he became a fool to himself.
Speaking of Darcy Blake, I was 14 when Grand Theft Auto Vice City came out on Playstation 2, I was too young to buy it and saw a lad in the shop who I thought looked old enough to buy it so asked him if he'd get it for me. He said yes, ended up not being asked for ID and I thanked him excessively and when he got his start for city I was like "thats the lad who got GTA for me". Darcy Blake who was the same age as me took my money and purchased an 18 rated game for me, great role model .
Jones didn't treat him right but Mathews got greedy. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. Good luck to him but wouldn't want him back.
A very able player but a bit too big for his own boots. Hence DJ's downer on him. Always capable of dropping a bollocking through lack of concentration.
