is the "new" group on the block. They will release a video today of them handing over hundreds of letters asking Roland to leave to the man himself. Looks like they were in Truiden yesterday and joined forces with their fans calling for Roland to go. With this and Getting to know the network, things are definitely stepping up and going in the right direction.
What a load of absolute dross. Look at Duchatelet's face when CARD's latest emissary gives him the Xmas cards - you can almost see the thought bubble above saying: "Those are going straight in the bin, unread"
Respect to them I say. Tracked down RD twice in the space of a few weeks and seemingly planning more trips back. His face was more a nervous smile. He would have felt embarrassed, hence why his wife wonders over giving her best impression of a smile.
But it is not achieving anything. Literally nothing. It reminds me of p1ssing into the face of a tsunami. As Karl Robinson said only two days ago, "you do know he is not selling, don't you?"
So what's the plan? We said the fight had to be taken to Belgium and that's what's happening. This isn't the be all, end all. It's a start. No one has the answer to what will make him sell. Fans smashing his office down and getting in his face at Liege didn't instantly make him leave. He's being embarrassed in his backyard. That will eventually grate on him if it hasn't already.
You say it is not achieving anything, how do you know that? It is a million times better than throwing soft toys onto the pitch. What would your plan of action be?
Organise a proper mass boycott of a home game - link it to media coverage & a team that has a poor away following. Spend the 90 mins of the game protesting in the West Stand car park. Or If we get a high profile 3rd round FA Cup tie - surely that is too good an opportunity to miss ? Only aggression forced the twat out of Standard, in answer to FHB's comment no, not given up but equally resigned to the fact that Enid Blyton jolly japes are not working.
Unfortunately the fans are split though, and a mass boycott isn't possible because: 1) there's those like several of us on here that are already boycotting. 2) the 6 odd thousand that want to "support the team". The walk out was attempted against boro (I think) and it was ok. A mass boycott is seemingly out of any organizers hand whilst the fan base is divided IMO. It would be good, don't get me wrong but are you guarenteed it'll work? Because if it didn't then the fans look foolish (like the flying taxis tbf).
A mass walk out of a high profile FA Cup tie would be a good idea, particularly if the TV cameras are there. Presumably many of the boycotters would come back for that one. I just thing some more provocative ideas are needed other than Xmas cards and plastic toys.
If we get a big tie you'd get people back, but sadly I don't think there would be any interest in a boycott. Against boro, due to the team being 2-0 up people changed their mind and stayed seated.
You will not get any more mass boycotts, the pinnacle of that was the Forest game, there had to be 2000.
I'd go along with that, but then I'm an old leftie who believes in united action. How many of our fans do?
A boycott is unrealistic and Duchatelet left Standard because he had two Belgian sides in the top division, not because of the "direct action". The Liege fans stormed his office before he even became owner of Charlton, he didn't sell them for another two years.
Not sure that is correct, the Standard Liege fans have a different point of view & even Duchatelet himself has mentioned their outright hostility to him. Boycott - no Toys on pitch - no Abandonments - Xmas cards with twee messages in them about how you have been going since you were a nipper - So what, then?
There is no guaranteed proccess whereby RD stands up and says 'f### this for a game of soliers, I'm selling up'. He has money, and papers naming him as owner. As fans, we can only get in his face. These guys did it in his back yard. Hats off to them. The Belgian media keep him in an unfavourable light because of these actions. Keep 'em coming.
