My lasting memory of him will be as the man who saved Paul Mcgrath's career and possibly even his life

I mentioned on the other thread the 7-1 and the 4-1 hammering as stand out memories from Graham Taylor. We of course have to also acknowledge the man for giving Carlton Palmer 18 caps, so RIP Graham, a true gent and a brave man.

He managed to turn his head around from being a boozer. Didn't Fergie remove the drinkers at Manchester United?

He didn't do that but he was sympathetic for Paul and always there for him after he seemingly tried to kill himself. Did a great job at shielding him from the press also. He was still a boozer for many years. Thankfully bar the odd lapse he's doing really well now. Read his autobiography Back from the Brink. Possibly the best one that I have ever read

Glad you reminded me of that; it's been one of the autobiographies I've wanted to read.

    What a player!*

*see a lot of him in Virgil*

Well it always seemed long ball when I was watching. The memory fades very much when losing. I agree on the 'Hoddle long ball gush' and anyone less celebrated who might do it gets totally overlooked. Nothing changes.

I know this thread is a bit dated now, but here's a great video I implore you to watch.

This is the outcome of a Best Man asking Graham to give a message to camera for the Watford-supporting groom.
