That's a good sign if City want Bertrand from a monetary perspective. Though like Beefy says, would rather he stays
But his attitude in the last few games has been awful. Moaning at the other players because they don't give him the ball, then, when he does get it, moaning because he can't do anything with it. I'd be sorry to see him go, but if he does, I hope he's learned his lesson at Chelski and doesn't sit on someone's bench for loads of games ....
Don't want him to go and think we should only sell of the offer is £30m+ and he really wants out. Normally when a player has 5 years left I would say we should simply refuse - but in this case I think we could replace Bertrand with an offer of £30m+. If his attitude improves under a new boss it would be a different case.
Targett is a decent full back, better defensively than McQueen, and hasn't, to my knowledge, let us down on the times he has played in place of Bertrand. What worries me, about Targett is that the fans, before his injury, were quick to moan if he mishit a pass, which already marks him out as a whipping boy. Given the opportunity he could be a steady left back, who, despite what some say, has a more than decent left foot.
We have two good left backs, both from the academy. At some point the plan is to have a certain number of the starting 11 from the academy, this could be ready-made. I can see both sides though, if we were to get £20m we can probably get a like for like replacement in for that. But could spend that money elsewhere. Please not Liverpool, City - ok. Bertrand has been a great player for us, consistently one of the best. Although his head has been turned it seems, he still shows his quality going forward. He's a really good player. Can't really blame him if City come in as he will be almost guaranteed a start at a club challenging for the title and looking to go deep into champs league. He can play centre back in a back 3 as well remember.
Possibly City - he might suit Pep's pressing style. I just think there are better LBs out there, certainly defensively. And City's problems are all in defence. On reflection, he might suit Spurs. Not that Danny Rose is going anywhere.
Disagree. He was excellent in his first season with us. He hasn't progressed since, and has been inconsistent and occasionally poor this season.
I'll just add that nyone who thinks that replacing Bertrand with either of those two wouldn't be a huge step down, is quite frankly deluded
Comparing these lads with Bertrand at his best then you are probably correct but we haven't seen much of that in the last few months. The irritating thing for me is that if the management knew he was leaving at the end of the season, why didn't they give McQueen more game time to get him more experience ready to step up?
Probably right. But ask a Liverpool fan if they would pay more for him now. I'd be surprised if they didnt think he was good value. He was key to their attack all season.
And seemingly the missing cog in ours. Nathan Redmond has this massive potential that everyone has raved about for years, but sooner or later he's going to have to develop it into it making an actual difference on the field.
We under sold Mane. If we'd dragged negotiations on a couple more weeks, then Bolasie would have got us another £8M at least.
I remember when Mane went for £34M, my first thought was that he'd been stolen. I was told it was good money and that I was mad. Told you so [not YOU specifically of course]. I thought he was £40M bare minimum, or not at all.
