Gabby knew nothing about the deflection, without the deflection it would probably chested it in, and without giving O Shea a piggy back he probably would have headed it in.

We all know that JWP likes his training, he needs to look at how Beckham and even Butterfield whipped the ball in behind the defensive line to get behind the defence. Beckham had Ronaldo and Van Nisteroy ? and Butters was looking for Rickie, either on the floor or in the air, but it has to have alot of whip on it. Most of the time those two put the ball in when they were just past the half way line, so did not need to try and beat the fall back. Sims should also practice as he does not have the speed to get past the full back

All JWP, and Cedric, Davis, and Redmond for that matter have to do is watch Ryan Bertrand whipping the ball past the full back from anywhere inside the opposition half.

Indeed. Like I said the other day, if Saints want to produce masterclass videos then Ryan should be first up on how to deliver the ball into the area in all situations. If they want a top up from history they can always access Danny or Frazer, but Ryan has stacks of video they could watch.

And against Ashley Cole. And Wayne Bridge.

Everyone knew Beckham's limitations when he was playing. Like a lot of the best players, he didn't need pace to find space, he'd just make it appear; then he'd pick the pass that Giggs, or whoever, would read, and a game is changed completely by one ball.

Didn't even need to find it because he was always out wide right, stood deep. Defenders just left him alone. It was always said he was ineffective if he played centrally. Now I wonder why. Hmm.? Beckham had 4 things which he made the very most of. He worked extremely hard on his limited talent, he had excellent leadership qualities, and he had a fine right foot. He also appeared humble, so people liked and like him. He also played for the right teams at the right time, so his career was very well managed too. When you consider that there were loads of more skilful players about during his time and he ended up being one of the richest and most memorable, one has to tip one's hat. Was he actually a great player though.? I think he was a good player who achieved great things.

Limited talent? Sorry, I'm not having that. He could land a 40 yard pass on a sixpence, and it was always the right pass, perfectly weighted.

As for playing for the right teams at the right time, well yeah, Man Utd, Real Madrid and England. None of that was by accident. He played for those teams - in fact he was a key player for them - because he was good enough not just to play at that level, but to stand out doing so.

Well Le Tiss could do the same with a lot less fuss and bother. And he could do it with either foot. That is aside from his other bits of genius.

Was this a comparison to Le Tiss? I don't think so. Beckham was top, top quality in a different way to Le Tiss.

Well yeah. I wouldn't put Beckham in LeTiss' class. Best player I have ever seen with my own eyes. Only Gascoigne and Glenn Hoddle came close. And Bale, I suppose. Maybe.

Actually, TSS has a point. .... I have now just realised that I was brilliant and as good as Beckham. I just didn't get his luck to play for the right teams at the right time :emoticon-0105-wink:

Maybe. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the player. Probably even more so.

    Nobody has said that.

I said they attack more nowadays. Which is true.

I remember when Becks went to Real, alot of players said they felt it was just to sell shirts. They were shocked in practice and in matches how often he managed to find the player that was surrounded by defenders.

Good grief! Beckham was slow and had limited talent! How short your memories are! how many games were won with a bit of Beckham magic, his tireless work, a perfect pass or a fantastic free-kick!

Beckham got the most out of his talent, and for that he should be commended.
