I just obliged mate, I remember the Ozzie era well just before the messiah and Sir John, ****ing shambles they were..
They can't say nowt mate, they've been bleating about attendances on the warm glow thread and have done since last night. We can jest to our hearts content fella, they do, JPF can lodge his hypocrisy up his farthole.
Both teams were regularly getting mid-teens (in thousands) for their home support and then mustering up 30k for the derbies as they seemingly had nothing else to play for. In the same way as the Keegan effect drew people out of the woodwork for us the Reid effect had attendances going from 13-16k up to 20k in his first full season and then (after promotion and relegation) clocking 40k a couple of seasons later. Our relative rise and fall through levels of mediocrity has been as symbiotic as it has been pointless. No ****ing trophies so lets argue about attendances. I want to cry. (sure you're aware this isn't a go at you Joe, just general depression about how so many NE people can support so passionately such mediocrity)
We were still pulling mid teens a couple of years ago. Unfortunately. Don't bring up the airport, though. We can't compete with that.
Over 20 years ago to be fair mate. It's all historic nonsense really. Both clubs have been pulling fantastic support consistently for the last quarter of a century. Unfortunately the daft decision to extend the ground to larger than our fan base keeps the pink seats gag running, and we know how they like to drag a joke out.
Friday night, school holidays, live on Sky, club in turmoil, skint, etc etc. I'm surprised that we got 29K to be honest. It's also a change that we are involved in an entertaining game which could have gone both ways and not the humiliating drab, one sided affairs that we have recently been used to.
If there were 47000 MBC's in there we'd be in the Champions League, it was great around me without the serial whingers.
Aye too true - I'd rather have 35000 "supporters" who get behind the team than 48000 fans with the noisy 13000 breeding negativity!
It's so true. We were **** for all my years at Roker Park, until Reid arrived. It was a pleasure going to the match it was the craic and banter as much as the football, everyone got involved, it was noisy, we backed he team. It changed a lot not so much when we moved grounds but when we built the unnecessary extension and the pockets of people got diluted. I feel as if this season we'd benefit from closing the extension to home fans and offering the reduced tickets in the lower bowl, filling it up. I know the away fans would still be up there but that surely can be easily managed.
https://rokerreport.sbnation.com/20...porters-drop-so-significantly-on-friday-night Regarding the attendance.
Did you have a pint after the match mate? I text you to say we were in the Colliery not sure if you got it?
