What a revelation. We have one player for that position, we will try and sign another. Nothing to see here.

 

Lest we forget, that previously, our ESTABLISHED left back was DANNY MOTHERFUCKING FOX. And there was a young(er than Targett) relatively unproven player by the name of Luke Shaw as his only rival.

 

well yeah but if you remember Shaw needed Fox in place two seasons ago as he couldn't hack it physically for 90 mins every week. Targett hasn't had that exposure and we cant expect him to come in straight away and perform well for 90 minutes every week at a level he isnt used to.

and another point. people have been comparing him to Shaw ever since it became apparent he'd be coming through. Shaw is a potential world class left back, world's 4th most expensive defender and most expensive British teenager in history. To judge his replacement by those standards is insane.

my point is we sorely need a left back. clyne can go there sure, but it's not his natural position and doesnt give Targett anyone to look up to or benefit from as a mentee. i wonder why no one has been linked since that Timothee Kolodscbjkcewfjak bloke from Nice ages ago

No. The point being made is that you can't say "We won't sell Lovren without finding a replacement." because we sold Shaw without finding a replacement.

 

Indeed. And if not for the fact that Shaw was, rather remarkably, a good PL defender from the off, the decision to enter the season with Fox as the only established LB might have cost us our spot in the division.

 

Morgan miraculously not getting injured all season helped as well. We would have been so gone.

 

Having sadly accepted that we will loose Lovren, I am laughing at the queue of potential "Big Clubs" lining up to compete for his signature now we have The Bindippers, Chelsea and now Manure

We can no doubt make the most of this competition by pushing his price up...simply a case of supply and demand. £25m+ on its way I would suggest

I know he was a good defender, especially pre-injury early in the season but really?
