Aye, you can always trust a rumour that starts "my mates sisters boyfriend, works at Elland Road and has just text me to say he has seen......" it's attention seeking, perhaps that's what football forums really are, attention seeking people, spewing off as much garbage about football as they can, sensationalising their rumour as much as they can to get the maximum attention.......

The best football rumour, that made television and is occassionally brought up again in the Scottish media, was Dumbarton FC attempt to buy Johan Cruyff from Barcelona. This started a media frenzy and I reckon the media up here really felt it was a genuine story. Dumbarton played at a disgrace of a ground called Boghead at that time and had an average of 2,000 supporters at each home game, they were a woeful club, ran by the son of the man who owned the House of Frazer group.
